Chapter 7 - The Unbroken Oath

Two months after the siege, the transformation of the Moretti syndicate was finalized.

Adrian officially dissolved the old enforcement rings, transitioning the family’s vast capital into legitimate real estate, technology investments, and international shipping logistics. The other crime families watched in stunned silence as the most feared mafia boss in New York dismantled his own empire from the inside out, turning a criminal syndicate into a legitimate corporate powerhouse.

Of course, respect in the underworld wasn't something you simply walked away from without tests.

Late one Friday evening, a delegation from the Chicago syndicate arrived unannounced at the front gates, demanding an audience with Adrian to discuss taking over our abandoned narcotics routes.

Dante escorted them into the grand foyer, where Adrian sat waiting in his wheelchair, flanked not by armed enforcers, but by corporate lawyers and federal liaison officers.

"You think you can just retire, Moretti?" the Chicago boss sneered, crossing his arms. "The board doesn't work that way."

Adrian didn't raise his voice. He didn't reach for a weapon. He simply slid a thick folder across the mahogany table.

"Inside that folder are the bank accounts, shipping manifests, and federal indictments for every illegal operation currently running out of Chicago," Adrian said calmly, his eyes locking onto the visitor with terrifying clarity. "You have twenty-four hours to shut them down voluntarily, or I hand those files directly to the Department of Justice with my personal recommendation. Your choice."

The Chicago boss turned pale, snatched the folder, and stormed out of the mansion without another word.

From the top of the grand staircase, I watched the exchange, a proud smile playing on my lips. My husband wasn't a criminal anymore. He was a king who didn't need a crown of blood to command absolute respect.
