Chapter 5 - The Confrontation in the Foyer

Theodore stood up slowly from the table, his tall, imposing frame casting a long shadow across the room. He didn't yell. He didn't rush forward. He simply looked at his son with a gaze so filled with profound disappointment that Nathan instinctively took a half-step back.
"We haven't lost our minds, Nathan," Theodore said softly. "We've finally found them."
"Dad, you can't do this to me!" Nathan shrieked, throwing his hands up in utter disbelief. "I’m your only son! I’m running the Lexington branch! If you destroy my career over a messy divorce, the company takes a hit—everybody loses!"
"The company will survive just fine without a thief and a liar at the helm," Margaret said, standing up to join her husband. She walked around the table until she stood face-to-face with her son. She raised her hand—not to strike him, but to point a steady, accusing finger at his chest. "You thought you could hide behind your charm, your money, and your lies while your wife worked night shifts and your children went without proper meals. You disgusting, selfish coward."
Nathan sneered, his mask of panic slipping to reveal the cold, calculating narcissist underneath. "Oh, please! Elise knew what she signed up for! She was dead weight! A suburban housewife holding back my social standing! Chloe understands my ambitions—she runs in high circles, she has style, she—"
Smack.
The sharp, ringing sound of a hand striking flesh echoed off the marble pillars of the foyer.
Elise stood at the top of the grand staircase, her hand still raised, her eyes blazing with an incandescent fury that left everyone in the room utterly speechless. She had walked down the steps silently, listening to every vile word he had spoken.
Nathan clutched his stinging cheek, staring up the stairs in absolute horror. "Elise... you—"
"I spent ten years believing in you," Elise said, her voice steady, powerful, and ringing with absolute authority. "I raised your children, I covered for your failures, and I trusted your word. But looking at you now, I realize you were never a man at all. You were just a pathetic little boy wearing an expensive suit."

She walked down the remaining steps, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Margaret and Theodore.
"The divorce papers are already filed, Nathan," Elise continued calmly. "You’ll be served by this afternoon. You won't get a single dime of my future earnings, you won't get custody, and by the time Harrison Vance is finished with you, you won't even be able to afford the rent on that luxury penthouse."
