Chapter 4 - The Legal Counter-Offensive

By Monday morning, the serene, aristocratic calm of the Sinclair family estate in Lexington had been thoroughly replaced by the sharp clicking of laptop keys and the rapid-fire dictation of a top-tier family law attorney named Harrison Vance.
Harrison sat at the mahogany dining table surrounded by bank statements, lease agreements, hidden corporate tax filings, and wire transfer records that Theodore’s private investigators had managed to pull overnight.
"This is an open-and-shut case of fraudulent asset dissipation and malicious abandonment," Harrison said, adjusting his wire-rimmed glasses as he looked up at Theodore and Margaret. "Furthermore, because Nathan utilized joint marital assets to fund his secondary residence and luxury lifestyle with his paramour, Chloe Sterling, we can freeze all of his corporate accounts at Sinclair & Associates immediately."
Margaret sat stiffly in her chair, staring out the window toward the sprawling green lawns of the estate where Elise, Ethan, and Lily were currently staying in the guest wing. For the past two days, getting the kids out of that miserable apartment and into a safe, warm environment had been their absolute priority.
"I want him stripped of everything he stole from Elise," Margaret said quietly, her eyes fixed on the horizon. "I want full custody support, back pay for every month he neglected his family, and I want him out of his executive position at the firm before the board meets on Wednesday."
Theodore placed a heavy, reassuring hand on his wife’s shoulder. "It’s already in motion, Margaret. I spoke to the senior partners at the firm an hour ago. When they saw the forensic audit showing Nathan embezzled operational bonuses to buy Chloe that downtown penthouse, they voted unanimously to suspend him pending termination."
Just then, the heavy oak front doors of the estate swung open with a resounding crash.

Footsteps echoed frantically across the marble foyer, and a disheveled, wild-eyed Nathan burst into the dining room. His designer suit was wrinkled, his hair uncombed, and his face flushed with manic rage.
"What the hell is going on?!" Nathan screamed, slamming his briefcase onto the mahogany table. "The bank cards are frozen! My corporate keycard was rejected at the parking garage! The board just locked me out of my office! Have you all completely lost your minds?!"
