Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Elena

One year later.
The estate bore no resemblance to the dark fortress of the past. The cold marble hallways were now filled with family photographs, bright sunlight, and the vibrant noise of children playing. The hidden cellar beneath the kitchen pantry had been completely sealed with poured concrete, and above it, we constructed a massive glass conservatory filled with blooming white roses—Elena’s favorite flower.
We held a small, private gathering in the rose garden to dedicate the space in Elena’s memory.
Sarah, Calvin, the girls, and I stood together around a carved stone bench at the center of the conservatory. Rosalyn, now four, and Camille, now three, held small baskets filled with white rose petals, scattering them over the green grass.
"Daddy, is Mommy watching us right now?" Rosalyn asked, looking up at me with her mother's brilliant green eyes.
I knelt down on the grass, pulling both of my daughters into my arms and holding them tightly against my chest.
"Yes, sweetie," I murmured softly. "Mommy is watching us every single day. And she is so proud of how strong and brave you both are."

Sarah walked over, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder as tears of joy glistened in her eyes. "She really would be proud, Marcus. You turned a house of fear into a home of pure love."
"We all did," I replied. "We survived the dark together."
