Chapter 6 - The Iron FoundryThe old iron foundry at the Milan docks was a towering monolith of rusted steel, broken glass, and decaying machinery. The rain poured down in sheets, rattling against the corrugated metal roof like a thousand drumbeats.

Inside, floodlights illuminated the vast, cavernous floor. Dozens of heavily armed Moretti mercenaries stood stationed along the high catwalks, their automatic rifles trained on the central entrance.

In the middle of the floor stood Matteo Reachi. He wore a dark tactical coat, a heavy rifle slung across his chest, his silver hair slicked back by the damp air. Beside him stood Don Alberto Moretti—a fat, cruel man with a gold ring on every finger, chuckling softly as he smoked a heavy cigar.

"He won't come, Matteo," Moretti sneered, spitting onto the concrete. "Alessandro is smart. He knows this is an execution box. He's probably halfway to Switzerland by now with his money."

"He'll come," Matteo said calmly, checking his watch. "Alessandro has one fatal flaw. Honor. He thinks he owes that dead bodyguard a debt. He won't let the girl die."

BOOM!

The heavy double steel doors of the foundry were suddenly blown inward off their hinges by a massive breacher charge. The shockwave shattered the remaining glass windows, sending a storm of shrapnel across the floor.

"Fire!" Moretti screamed, ducking behind an iron pillar.

The catwalk mercenaries opened fire, a deafening wall of bullets tearing through the smoke at the entrance. Muzzle flashes illuminated the darkness like violent lightning.

But no one came through the front door.

Instead, the sky lit up above them. The high glass skylights shattered simultaneously as six black-clad Duca tactical operators rappelled down on thick cables, throwing tear gas and flashbangs into the center of the room.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Chaos erupted instantly. Blinding white light and thick smoke engulfed the mercenaries. Screams of pain and disoriented gunfire echoed off the metal walls as Alessandro’s strike team executed a brutal, synchronized breach.

Through the front entrance smoke, a single figure walked calmly into the arena.

Alessandro Duca moved like a shadow through the gunfire. He fired his weapon with terrifying, surgical precision—one shot, one kill—dropping two Moretti gunners before they even leveled their sights. He didn't take cover. He didn't rush. He walked forward with the unstoppable momentum of a man who had already accepted his fate.

"Matteo!" Alessandro’s voice boomed above the gunfire, terrifying and clear.

From behind an iron furnace, Matteo stepped out, his rifle raised. He fired a three-round burst. One bullet grazed Alessandro’s shoulder, tearing through his jacket, but Alessandro didn't even flinch. He returned fire, striking Matteo's rifle and blowing it completely out of his hands.

Matteo grunted in pain, stumbling back as his gun shattered on the floor. He drew a heavy tactical knife from his belt, his eyes wild with rage.

Don Moretti tried to run toward the side exit, but Marco materialized out of the smoke, slamming the butt of his shotgun into Moretti’s jaw, knocking the mob boss unconscious onto the cold stone floor.

The remaining mercenaries were subdued within ninety seconds. The room fell into a terrifying, heavy silence, broken only by the crackle of fires and the heavy dripping of rain from the destroyed roof.

Alessandro walked up to Matteo, holding his Sig Sauer steady, pointed directly between Matteo’s eyes.

Matteo leaned against a steel pillar, bleeding from his hand, breathing heavily. But despite being completely defeated, he let out a harsh, rasping laugh.

"Look at you," Matteo spat, blood splashing onto his chin. "The great Don Duca. Fighting for a maid and a bastard child. Your father would be ashamed of you, Alessandro. You turned our empire into a circus."

"My father died because he trusted a snake," Alessandro said, his voice flat, devoid of emotion. "And I spent sixteen years letting that snake whisper in my ear."

"Do it then!" Matteo screamed, taking a step forward, pressing his forehead directly against the cold barrel of Alessandro's gun. "Pull the trigger! Finish it! You're just like me, Alessandro! You're a killer! You'll never have a normal life! You'll die alone in a room just like your father!"

Alessandro stared into the eyes of the man who had stolen his youth, his father, and his peace. His finger tightened on the trigger.

Every instinct in his body—the dark, brutal training of the underworld—demanded that he blow Matteo's brains across the concrete.

Check your coffee, sir.

The memory of Emma’s innocent face flashed in his mind. The feeling of her tiny arms wrapped around his neck. The realization that if he gave in to the endless cycle of mindless bloodshed, he was no better than the monster standing before him.

Slowly, deliberately, Alessandro lowered his gun.

Matteo blinked, confusion washing over his face. "What are you doing? Shoot me!"

"No," Alessandro said softly. "Death is too easy for you, Matteo. You want to be a legend. You want to die in a blaze of glory."

Alessandro nodded to Marco, who walked up with heavy steel zip-ties and an encrypted tablet.

"I’ve spent the last three hours handing over every single one of your private bank accounts, your safehouses, and your contacts to the Federal Police and Interpol," Alessandro said calmly. "Including the full audio recording of you admitting to the murder of Julian Alvarez and Giovanni Duca."

Matteo’s face turned paper-white. "You... you went to the cops?"

"I didn't go to the cops," Alessandro corrected, stepping back into the shadows. "I gave them an anonymous tip. In five minutes, thirty armed federal officers will breach this building. You’re going to spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security concrete box, forgotten, powerless, and completely alone."

Sirens began to wail in the distance, growing louder as dozens of police cruisers approached the docks.

"No! Kill me! Shoot me, you coward!" Matteo screamed, lunging forward, but Marco dropped him to his knees with a brutal strike to the back of his leg, binding his wrists behind him with unbreakable steel ties.

Alessandro turned his back on his former friend, walking out into the rain without looking back once.
