Chapter 8 - The Shores of Capri

The summer sun reflected off the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, casting bright, dancing diamonds across the cliffs of Capri.
A magnificent white yacht floated smoothly near the private bay, its dark blue flag bearing the crest of the Moretti family fluttering in the warm Mediterranean breeze.
On the upper deck, Alessandro stood near the wooden railing, wearing a casual white linen shirt and sunglasses, a cup of espresso in his hand. Beside him, Elena sat in a comfortable deck chair, wearing a sunhat, watching Lucas play with a set of toy boats in a small inflatable pool on the deck.
For the first time in his adult life, Alessandro felt a deep, unwavering peace. The heavy burden of fear, revenge, and constant vigilance had lifted from his shoulders, replaced by the simple, profound joy of watching his son grow.
Dr. Arnaldi walked up the deck stairs, holding a pair of binoculars. "It’s a fine day, Alessandro. The local captains in Naples sent their regards. They’ve agreed to the new trade terms without a single complaint."
"They know better than to disturb my peace, Doctor," Alessandro replied with a light chuckle.
"You've changed, my friend," Arnaldi noted, setting the binoculars on the table. "Three years ago, you were a ghost wandering a cold castle. Today... you are a living man."
Alessandro looked down at his reflection in the dark coffee. "I was dead, Arnaldi. The day Claire left, I closed my heart and locked the door. I thought power was the only thing that could keep me safe."
He turned his gaze toward Lucas, who was currently trying to make his toy boat splash water on Marco, who stood nearby looking thoroughly amused despite trying to maintain his tough bodyguard persona.
"A child's love," Alessandro continued softly, "is a strange thing. It doesn't care about money, or territories, or how many men fear your name. It only asks for your presence. Lucas saved me from becoming a monster."
"Claire knew what she was doing when she sent him to you," Elena spoke up from her chair, her voice full of gentle wisdom. "She knew that only a child's hand could open a heart as stubborn as yours, Alessandro."
Alessandro smiled, setting his cup down. He walked across the wooden deck, dropping down to his knees beside Lucas’s pool.
"Hey, captain," Alessandro called out gently. "Are your ships ready to sail into the deep water?"
Lucas looked up, his face covered in water droplets, his wide, happy smile revealing a missing baby tooth at the front. "Yes, Daddy! But I need a second captain!"
Alessandro didn't hesitate. He reached out, splashing his broad hands into the warm water, joining his son’s game under the bright Italian sun, completely unconcerned about soaking his expensive linen clothes.

Marco watched from the railing, leaning over to whisper to Dr. Arnaldi. "If you told me two years ago that the head of the Moretti syndicate would be playing toy boats on a deck, I would have shot you for lying."
"People don't change for fear or money, Marco," Arnaldi smiled quietly. "They only change for family."
