Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of Vance

The terror in the dining room was absolute.

Julian Vance looked up into Alessandro’s eyes, finding no mercy, no warmth, and no room for negotiation. The legendary mafia boss was not just angry—he was executing a calculated sentence that had been drafted the moment Claire’s letter was opened.

"Alessandro... please," Isabella sobbed, dropping to her knees beside her father's chair, reaching out to grasp the hem of Alessandro’s jacket. "It was my father's idea! He told me we had to do it! He said you would never marry me if she stayed in the house! I didn't want anyone to die!"

Alessandro looked down at the weeping woman with cold detachment. He gently pulled his jacket from her grip.

"You knew, Isabella," Alessandro said softly. "You saw her body at the foot of the stairs, and you came to this house forty-eight hours later with pastries and smiles, offering to replace her."

He motioned to Marco.

Marco pulled a thick stack of legal documents from his inner pocket and tossed them onto the table directly in front of Julian.

"These documents transfer every asset, every bank account, every shipping terminal, and every piece of property owned by the Vance family to a blind trust registered under the name of Lucas Alessandro Moretti," Alessandro declared calmly. "You will sign every page, Julian. Right now."

Julian’s hands shook uncontrollably as he stared at the papers that represented thirty years of accumulated wealth and influence. "And... and if I refuse? If I demand a trial?"

"If you refuse," Alessandro murmured, leaning in close, "Victor will be buried in the bay tonight, and you and your daughter will be handed over to the federal prosecutor along with fifty years of encrypted banking records detailing your money-laundering operations for the Chicago syndicate. You will spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security prison."

Julian gasped for air, his heart hammering against his ribs. He looked at his bruised nephew, then at his hysterical daughter, and finally at the merciless face of the man who controlled the city.

He had no choices left. He had built an empire on corruption, and in a single evening, it had been dismantled by the child of the woman he murdered.

With trembling fingers, Julian picked up the pen left beside the papers. Page after page, his signature was scrawled across the bottom lines—signing away his wealth, his power, and his legacy.

When the final signature was complete, Alessandro picked up the documents and handed them to Marco.

"Take Victor to the docks and put him on a cargo ship to South America," Alessandro ordered. "If he ever returns to this continent, put a bullet in his head."

"And us?" Julian asked, his voice broken, looking like a shell of the proud man who had walked into the room an hour ago.

"You and Isabella will leave this city by midnight," Alessandro commanded flatly. "You will live in a modest apartment in upstate New York, under constant surveillance by my men. You will receive a monthly stipend of two thousand dollars—the exact amount Rosa Mendes earned as my housekeeper. You will live as servants to the world you once looked down upon."

Julian closed his eyes, tears of utter humiliation spilling down his wrinkled cheeks. Isabella continued to weep silently on the floor.

"Get out of my house," Alessandro said, turning his back on them.

As the guards escorted the ruined Vance family out into the pouring rain, the heavy oak doors of the dining hall clicked shut once more.

The silence that followed was different this time. The air felt lighter, cleared of the toxic deception that had hung over the estate for three years.

Alessandro stood alone in the center of the vast room. He reached into his pocket and pulled out Claire’s cream letter. He smoothed the creases with his thumb, reading her final words once more:

Love him, Alessandro. Teach him to be strong, but teach him to be kind. He is the best part of both of us.

May you like

Alessandro smiled softly, a genuine tear finally escaping his eye, tracing a warm path down his cheek.

"I will, Claire," he whispered into the quiet room. "I promise you, I will."
