Chapter 10 - A New Dawn under the Chandeliers
One year after the scandal, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was once again filled with music, laughter, and the soft clinking of champagne glasses.
It was the annual Vale Foundation Gala, but the atmosphere was completely different from the night of the sapphire theft. The air was warm, filled with genuine celebration and hope. The guest list included teachers, community leaders, and local artists alongside the wealthy donors.
Eleanor stood at the center of the room, wearing a stunning, deep emerald gown. Her hair was styled in soft waves, and her smile was radiant, holding a warmth that captivated everyone who spoke to her.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Daniel Mercer’s voice echoed through the microphone as he stood on the stage. "Welcome to the new era of the Vale Foundation. Tonight, we celebrate not just our survival, but our rebirth. Thanks to your support, we have funded twenty new community centers across the state."
The room erupted into thundering applause.
Daniel looked down from the stage, his eyes locking with Eleanor’s. He raised his glass to her, a soft, intimate smile playing on his lips.
As the music started again, Daniel walked down the steps and made his way through the crowd directly to her. He extended his hand, his eyes shining with devotion.
"May I have this dance, Executive Director?" Daniel asked.
