Chapter 6 - The New Foundation

One year later.
The autumn sun shone brightly over the manicured rose gardens of the Romano estate. White chairs were arranged across the lush green lawn, overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan.
Inside the master suite upstairs, Fiona stood before a full-length mirror, adjusting the lace sleeves of an elegant, tailored white wedding gown. Her hair was styled in soft curls, her cheeks flushed with healthy color and radiant happiness.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Dominic stepped inside, wearing a sharp tux. He held a small, handsome toddler in his arms, dressed in a tiny black suit and bowtie.
"Look who wanted to see his mom before the ceremony," Dominic smiled, setting fifteen-month-old Leo down on his feet.
Leo giggled, wobbling across the rug on his sturdy little legs, reaching his small arms up toward Fiona. "Mommy!"
Fiona dropped to her knees, gathering the little boy into a warm embrace, kissing his forehead softly. "Look at you, my handsome big boy!"
Dominic watched them with a proud, protective smile. "The boss is waiting downstairs, Fiona. I've never seen him look so nervous in my life. And trust me, I've seen him face down twenty armed men without sweating."
Fiona laughed softly, standing up while holding Leo on her hip. "Let's not keep him waiting, then."
Moments later, soft classical music drifted across the garden as Fiona walked down the outdoor aisle.
Standing beneath a white floral arch at the edge of the lawn stood Alessio Romano. He looked breathtakingly handsome in a dark, custom-tailored tuxedo. His eyes were locked on Fiona, filled with an intense, unyielding devotion that no amount of power or wealth could ever buy.
When Fiona reached him, Alessio took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers firmly.
"You look beautiful," he murmured softly, his voice thick with emotion.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Romano," she teased gently.
The justice of the peace began the ceremony, but for Alessio and Fiona, the world around them faded into a soft, quiet hum. They looked into each other's eyes, fully aware of the dark paths they had both walked to reach this moment—paths marked by betrayal, loss, and danger.
"I, Alessio, take you, Fiona," he spoke his vows with absolute, ringing clarity, "to be my wife, my partner, and my protector. I promise to honor you, to stand between you and any shadow, and to love you for all the days of my life."
Fiona’s eyes filled with joyful tears as she spoke her response. "I, Fiona, take you, Alessio, to be my husband, my sanctuary, and my heart. I promise to stand by your side, to build a home of warmth and peace, and to love you always."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "You may kiss the bride."
Alessio didn't hesitate. He pulled Fiona into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, amidst the joyous cheers of their closest friends, security staff, and allies.
When they parted, Leo toddled over, tugging on Alessio's pant leg. Alessio picked his son up, holding him close with one arm while wrapping his other arm around his new wife's waist.

Together, the three of them looked out over the sunlit lake.
The dark, paranoid world of the ruthless syndicate boss was gone. In its place stood a family—forged in a moment of terrifying crisis, healed by unconditional love, and built on an unbreakable foundation of trust.
