Chapter 3 - The Traitor in the Boardroom

Nathan tore out of the corporate tower, ignoring the elevator full of executives waiting for him. He drove like a maniac through the streets of Chicago, his phone pinned to his ear as he called his private security chief, Marcus.
"Marcus, get two cars to Emma’s apartment now! Block the exit!" Nathan roared over the roar of his engine.
Ten minutes later, Nathan slammed his SUV onto the curb outside Emma’s building. He sprinted up the stairs three steps at a time, bursting through the unlocked door of the apartment.
Inside, Emma was holding Ethan and Noah behind her back, her face pale with terror. Standing in the middle of her living room were two high-priced attorneys flanked by two private security officers.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Nathan bellowed, stepping directly in front of Emma and his sons.
One of the attorneys stepped forward, holding up a official court document. "Mr. Harrison, we represent the Harrison Global Board of Directors. Under corporate clause 14-B, a preliminary injunction has been filed citing your sudden mental incompetence and illegal diversion of corporate funds to Ms. Parker."
"They're trying to take my boys, Nathan!" Emma sobbed behind him, her hands trembling as she held the terrified four-year-olds. "They said I’m an unfit mother because of my debts and that the company is taking custody on your behalf to protect the estate!"
Nathan’s blood ran ice-cold. He realized the terrifying trap that had been set.
Victor Vance hadn't just intercepted the reports—he had orchestrated this entire event. By proving Nathan was mentally compromised by an secret family and using corporate funds to clear Emma's debts, Victor could force Nathan out of his own company and take control of the three-billion-dollar Singapore deal.
"You tell Victor," Nathan said, his voice dropping into a lethal, terrifying hush, "that if he touches a single hair on these boys' heads, I won't just fire him. I will tear his life apart piece by piece."
Marcus and four armed private security operators burst through the apartment door, drawing their weapons and forcing the corporate attorneys and their guards out into the hallway.
When the door slammed shut and locked, the room went dead silent.
Ethan and Noah peeped out from behind Emma’s leg. Ethan—the little boy who loved rockets—looked up at Nathan with big, innocent brown eyes.

"Are you the man from the bakery?" Ethan asked softly. "The one who paid for our cinnamon rolls?"
Nathan dropped to his knees, his eyes welling with uncontainable tears. "Yes, little guy. I am."
