Chapter 5 - The Siege of Blackwood Manor

The mansion was transformed into a war zone.
Heavy automatic gunfire shattered the stained-glass windows of the grand entrance. Shouts in Russian and English echoed off the marble walls as Sergei Volkov’s heavily armed mercenaries flooded the grounds, attempting to overwhelm Victor’s security detail through sheer numbers.
Inside the hidden steel panic room beneath the master suite, Lily sat on a leather bench, rocking Ethan in her arms.
The panic room was equipped with tactical monitors displaying the mansion’s security feeds. On the screens, Lily watched in breathless horror as the battle raged above.
Victor was a force of nature.
Moving through the shadows of his own home with terrifying speed and precision, he eliminated the invading mercenaries one by one. His movements were clinical, lethal, and completely devoid of hesitation. Alongside Marcus and Anton, Victor turned his pristine mansion into a trap for anyone foolish enough to threaten his household.
On screen six, Lily saw a tall man with a scarred face—Sergei Volkov—breaching the second-floor gallery, holding a high-caliber rifle, aiming directly toward the hallway leading to the nursery.
"No!" Lily gasped, pressing her hand against the monitor screen.
On the screen, Victor appeared from a hidden panel behind a tapestry. Before Sergei could turn his rifle, Victor tackled him through the wooden banister, both men crashing onto the marble floor of the foyer below.
The monitor camera caught the violent struggle. Sergei pulled a combat knife, slashing at Victor’s shoulder. Blood stained Victor’s white shirt, but the mafia lord didn't even flinch. Victor grabbed Sergei’s wrist, twisting it until the knife dropped, then slammed the mercenary commander’s head against the stone pillar with brutal force.
Sergei went limp.
Within twenty minutes, the gunfire died down. The remaining mercenaries retreated, leaving the grounds littered with their fallen weapons.
In the panic room, the heavy steel door suddenly hummed, its electronic locks disengaging.
The door swung open.
Victor stood in the doorway. His dark jacket was gone, his white shirt was torn and soaked with crimson blood at the shoulder, and his knuckles were bruised. But his eyes were clear, dark, and filled with intense relief as they landed on Lily and Ethan.
"Victor!" Lily dropped Ethan safely onto the playmat inside the panic room and threw herself into Victor’s arms, ignoring the blood on his shirt.
Victor caught her, wrapping his good arm around her waist, lifting her off her feet, holding her against his heart. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her soft, comforting scent.
"It’s over," Victor growled softly, his voice heavy with adrenaline. "Volkov is captured. The Senator’s men are wiped out."
"You’re bleeding!" Lily cried, pulling back to look at his wounded shoulder, tears filling her eyes. "You need a doctor!"
"I’m fine," Victor murmured, gazing at her with a raw intensity that made her breath hitch. "I’ve survived far worse than a knife wound, Lily. But seeing you run into that panic room... knowing you were in danger... that almost killed me."
Lily reached up, gently cradling his jaw with her soft hands. "I wasn't worried about myself. I was terrified for you."
Victor looked down at her, his heart pounding against his ribs—not from the battle he had just fought, but from the overwhelming realization of what this young woman meant to him.
He didn't just trust her. He didn't just respect her.
He loved her.
"Lily," Victor whispered, his thumb tenderly tracing her cheekbone. "When Serena was here, this house was a cold prison. You brought light back into my life. You protected my son when no one else would. You gave him a mother’s love... and you gave me a reason to want a real family again."
Lily’s heart soared, tears of happiness spilling over her lashes. "Victor..."
"I know who I am," Victor continued, his dark eyes vulnerable for the first time in his life. "I am a man surrounded by shadows and danger. But if you will have me... I want to spend the rest of my life protecting you and loving you. Stay with us. Not as Ethan’s nanny... but as my wife."
Ethan crawled out of the panic room, grabbing the bottom of Victor’s trousers, letting out a cheerful laugh—“Mama! Mama!”—pointing his tiny hand at Lily.
Lily looked from the precious little boy to the powerful, fiercely protective man holding her.

"Yes," Lily sobbed happily, wrapping her arms around Victor’s neck. "Yes, Victor! A thousand times yes!"
Victor pulled her into a passionate, triumphant kiss, sealing their future right there in the grand hallway of Blackwood Manor.
