Chapter 4 - Betrayal from Within

Dr. Vance stopped. The smooth, caring facade completely evaporated, replaced by a cold, calculating sneer.

"You always were too sentimental, Alejandro," Vance said, putting the syringe away. "Just like your father. He wouldn't approve of Vivian’s aggressive expansion ideas either. That’s why he had to go."

Alejandro felt the air leave his lungs. "What did you say about my father?"

"Three years ago, Elena found the medical records," Vivian interjected, seeing an opportunity to deflect the blame. "She found out that Vance had been altering your father's heart medication. She was going to tell you. I caught her in this very room with the files."

"And Vivian offered me a better deal," Dr. Vance added smoothly. "Instead of a messy murder charge for Elena's disappearance, we decided to keep her alive. We needed her signatures to access the trust funds. Every time you thought she was 'missing,' she was right here, being kept compliant with my specialized sedatives."

Alejandro’s world spun. His father’s sudden passing four years ago hadn’t been a natural heart attack. It was murder. And his wife had been tortured for three years to cover it up.

"And the staff?" Alejandro asked, his voice shaking with a mix of grief and rage. "How did you keep them silent?"

"Money, of course," Vivian laughed hysterically, realizing she had nothing left to lose. "And threats. Anyone who spoke up would end up like Elena. Or worse. Isn't that right, Marcus?"

Alejandro’s eyes widened as he realized too late. Marcus, his head of security, wasn't guarding Vivian anymore. He was standing right behind Alejandro, with a taser drawn.
