Chapter 1 - The Ring in the Walls

The silence in the grand foyer was deafening. Vivian’s face drained of color as Alejandro’s words echoed off the marble walls. The security guards, who had previously taken orders from Vivian, stood frozen, waiting for their billionaire employer's next move.

"Alejandro, darling, you're being hysterical," Vivian stammered, trying to force a laugh that came out as a sharp gasp. "She’s a fraud! Look at her! Elena left you three years ago. This girl is just a lookalike trying to steal your money!"

Alejandro didn’t even look at Vivian. His eyes were locked on Elena. He stepped over the spilled water and reached for her hands. The moment his fingers brushed her skin, Elena flinched violently, pulling back in terror. It broke his heart. This was the woman who used to laugh fearlessly, who held him when the world felt too heavy. Now, she looked like a caged animal.

"Elena," he whispered, his voice cracking. "It's me. You're safe. I swear to you, you're safe."

"She can't speak to you, Alejandro," Vivian sneered, stepping down the stairs, her heels clicking like a countdown clock. "She's unstable. That's why she's working as a maid. I found her wandering the streets and took pity on her. If anything, you should be thanking me."

"Shut up, Vivian," Alejandro growled, a dangerous edge in his tone. He turned to his head of security, Marcus. "Take Miss Moretti to the holding room. Call the police. And tell my legal team to initiate a full forensic audit on every contract she has signed in the last three years."

As Marcus stepped forward, Vivian’s composure finally shattered. "You can't do this! I built this empire with you while she was gone! You have no proof of anything!"

But the proof was already presenting itself. As Elena trembled, she slowly raised her bruised wrist and pointed a shaky finger not at Vivian, but toward the massive portrait of Alejandro’s ancestors hanging in the dining room.

Alejandro followed her gaze. He walked into the dining hall, ripped the heavy gold-framed painting off the wall, and gasped. Behind it was a hidden digital keypad lock—one he had never installed.
