Chapter 7 - The New Vow

Six months later.

The Moretti estate was bathed in the warm, golden light of a summer afternoon. The twenty-foot ceilings of the grand dining room no longer felt cold and imposing; the heavy oil paintings of dead ancestors had been replaced by vibrant, beautiful landscapes that let the light dance across the marble floors.

The dining table was set for a magnificent celebration, but the atmosphere was entirely different than it had been six months prior. There was no fear in the air. The staff moved with light steps and bright smiles, led by a newly promoted head of household who greeted every guest with genuine warmth.

Elena Brooks stood in front of a full-length mirror in the master suite, staring at her reflection. She wore a simple, breathtakingly elegant white lace dress that fell softly around her frame, the sleeves long and delicate, covering the faint, pale silver line on her left forearm where the burn had beautifully healed into a mark of survival.

A soft knock sounded on the door, and Gabriel walked in.

He wore a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, his dark hair brushed back, looking incredibly handsome. But the most striking thing about him was his expression—the cold, unyielding mask of the mafia Don had completely vanished, replaced by a deep, radiant happiness that belonged solely to the woman standing before him.

He walked up behind her, his large hands resting gently on her waist, looking at their reflection in the mirror.

"You look beautiful, Elena," he murmured, leaning down to press a soft kiss against her shoulder.

Elena smiled, leaning back against his chest, her hands resting over his. "I still can't believe this is real, Gabriel. Six months ago, I was just a girl spilling tea on your floor."

"Six months ago, you saved me from making the biggest mistake of my life," Gabriel corrected gently, turning her around so she was facing him. He reached into his vest pocket and extracted a small, velvet box.

He opened it to reveal a ring. It wasn't the cold diamond of his past alliance, nor was it the dark titanium he had discarded on the white tablecloth. It was a beautiful, vintage gold band set with a deep, radiant emerald that caught the light like a living forest—a ring that symbolized life, growth, and a new beginning.

"This is my grandmother’s ring," Gabriel said, his voice thick with a raw, profound sincerity. "She was the only woman who ever managed to bring peace to my grandfather’s chaotic life. I want you to wear it, Elena. Not because of an alliance, and not because of a contract. But because you are my heart. You are the woman I am marrying."

Elena felt fresh tears of joy well up in her eyes as Gabriel slipped the gold band onto her finger. It fit perfectly, a warm, solid weight that anchored her to a future filled with absolute security and unconditional love.

"Yes," she whispered, looking up into his dark eyes. "A thousand times, yes."

They walked down the grand staircase together, hand in hand, stepping out onto the sun-drenched terrace where their close friends, the loyal captains, and Dr. Rossi stood up to applaud the new future of the Moretti family—a future built no longer just on fear and power, but on the unyielding foundation of honor, dignity, and a love that had rewritten the rules of the kingdom.
