Chapter 8 - The Confrontation on the Docks

Evelyn found herself backed against the edge of the wooden pier, the freezing black water of the Atlantic churning twenty feet below her. Julian stood before her, the crowbar dripping with Marcus's blood. The fire from the explosion was spreading rapidly toward the main fuel valves of the terminal.

"Where is your arrogance now, Evelyn?" Julian sneered, stepping closer. "Where is that calm voice that cut me so deep at the wedding? You're nothing without your family's money."

"You think this is about money, Julian?" Evelyn said, her voice remaining surprisingly steady despite the mortal danger. "You never understood. I married you because I thought you had a soul hidden beneath that corporate armor. I wanted to give Leo a complete family. But you're empty. You're just a hollow shell wrapped in an expensive suit."

"Shut up!" Julian screamed, raising the crowbar to strike her.

Suddenly, the loud blare of a police siren echoed through the burning terminal. A fleet of tactical vehicles swerved onto the pier, their headlights blinding Julian. From the lead vehicle, Arthur Vance stepped out, accompanied by the Chief of Police.

"Drop the weapon, Julian!" Arthur shouted through a megaphone, his voice breaking with profound heartbreak. "It's over!"

Julian looked around wildly, realizing he was completely surrounded. In his distraction, Evelyn lunged forward, grabbing his wrist and twisting it with all her strength. The crowbar clattered to the ground. She kicked his knee, sending the disgraced billionaire sprawling onto the wet wood of the pier just as tactical officers swarmed him, slamming his face into the ground and securing the handcuffs.
