Chapter 5 - The Press Conference of the Century

The media room was packed to maximum capacity. Journalists from every major financial and news outlet jostled for position. Evelyn walked onto the stage alone, refusing to bring Leo into the media circus. She stood at the podium, looking directly into the cameras.
"Yesterday, Julian Vance sat on national television and lied," Evelyn began, her voice resonating with absolute clarity. "He lied about my son, he lied about my family, and he lied about himself. I will not engage in a war of words with a man who lacks basic human decency. Instead, I will present facts."
She signaled to a screen behind her. Instead of financial documents, a series of medical records and surveillance footage appeared.
"Three years ago, Julian Vance was involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a young cyclist paralyzed. He used his family’s wealth to pay off the police and bury the evidence," Evelyn revealed, as the documents detailing the cover-up flashed on the screen. "Furthermore, the falsified financial documents currently being investigated by the feds were created from an IP address registered to Julian’s private office notebook."
The room erupted into a frenzy of shouting reporters. Evelyn held up her hand for silence.
"Julian Vance thought he could erase me and my son," she continued, her voice cutting through the noise like ice. "But he has only erased himself. Effective immediately, Sterling Global is terminating all contracts with Vance Enterprises. We are launching a hostile takeover bid for their logistics division. And as for the criminal charges regarding the assault on my son? We will see you in court, Julian."

As Evelyn walked off the stage, Marcus met her in the wings, a genuine look of awe on his face. "You just destroyed sixty percent of his net worth in five minutes."
"I'm just getting started," Evelyn replied.
