Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year after the fateful wedding night, the Sterling Estate was filled with laughter and music once again. It wasn't a lavish corporate reception designed for flashing cameras or business mergers; it was an intimate backyard gathering celebrating Leo’s eighth birthday.
The garden was decorated with bright balloons and streaming ribbons. Dozens of Leo’s school friends ran across the lush green grass, playing tag. Richard Sterling sat in his wheelchair by the patio, a proud smile on his face, looking stronger than he had in years, surrounded by family love.
Evelyn stood on the terrace, holding a glass of lemonade, watching Leo blow out the candles on a large chocolate cake. She wore a simple, elegant yellow sundress. The shadows of the past year were entirely gone, replaced by a radiant peace.
Marcus walked up beside her, handing her a folder. "The final transition papers are signed. Vance Enterprises is officially gone. It has been completely absorbed into Sterling-Vance Global, and the board has just voted to place five percent of the total company shares into a trust fund for Leo, to be accessed when he turns twenty-one."
Evelyn smiled softly, looking at the document before closing it. "Thank you, Marcus. For everything. We couldn't have survived this year without you."
"You would have survived," Marcus said with a warm smile. "You're the strongest woman I've ever known. You fought for your son, and in doing so, you saved all of us."
Leo ran up the terrace stairs, his face covered in chocolate frosting, holding a small paper crown he had won in a party game. He threw his arms around Evelyn's waist.
"Mommy! Look! I'm the king of the castle!" Leo cheered, his eyes sparkling with pure, unadulterated happiness.
Evelyn knelt down, wiping a smudge of chocolate from his cheek—the very cheek where a cruel man had once left a red mark of hatred. She placed the paper crown gently back on his head.

"Yes, you are, my brave little king," Evelyn whispered, kissing his forehead. "And no one will ever take your crown away again."
As the sun began to set over the estate, casting a warm, golden glow across the happy family, Evelyn looked out into the future. The battle was over, the victory was absolute, and love had finally triumphed over cruelty. They were finally free, and they were finally home.
