Chapter 5 - The Final Act

The airfield was a ghost town at midnight. A private jet sat on the tarmac, engines idling.
Preston Whitcomb looked smaller than Enzo remembered. Without his suit, without his power, he was just a desperate, aging man. When he saw Harper step out from behind Enzo, his face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom.
"You ungrateful little brat," Preston snarled. "I should have finished the job years ago."
Harper didn't flinch. She walked forward, stopping just ten feet from him.
"You didn't finish it because you wanted to see how long I would hold on," Harper said, her voice cold and clear as glass. "But you were wrong, Dad. I wasn't holding on for you. I was holding on until I could find someone who could help me bury you."
"Help her?" Preston sneered at Enzo. "You think this thug loves you? You're just another piece of property to him."
Enzo stepped forward, his hand resting on the pistol at his hip, but he didn't draw it. He didn't need to. "She isn't property, Preston. She’s the one who gave me the access codes to your final accounts. She’s the one who tipped off the Feds. You didn't lose your empire to me. You lost it to your daughter."
Preston’s face went pale. He turned to run toward the plane, but Enzo’s men were already there, locking the gangplank.
"The police are two minutes out," Enzo said. "And they have the ledgers. They have the recordings. They have Elena."
Preston sank to his knees, his composure shattering completely. "Harper, please… you're my flesh and blood."

"I am nothing to you," Harper said, looking down at him with an expression of profound indifference. "And that is exactly how you’re going to spend the rest of your life."
As the sirens wailed in the distance, Enzo stepped up behind Harper, placing a hand on her shoulder. She leaned back into him—a gesture of trust that felt like a triumph.
