Chapter 3 - The Bloodline's Curse

Alejandro stood in the hospital corridor, his mind racing. His mother was moving fast. She knew that once Valeria recovered enough to give a formal police statement, the police would investigate the mansion. Esther was attempting to freeze Alejandro’s financial power so he couldn't use his wealth to fight her in court or hire legal defense for Valeria.
"Stay here with the guards," Alejandro instructed Dr. Morales. "No one enters this room except you."
He turned to his private investigator, a former federal agent named Rodrigo, who had just arrived at the hospital.
"Rodrigo, I need you to go to the gallery in Coyoacán," Alejandro ordered quietly. "Valeria hid documents behind a painting in the restoration studio. Get them before my mother’s people burn the place down."
"On it, boss," Rodrigo nodded, speeding off toward the elevator.
Alejandro drove like a madman through the crowded streets of Mexico City, heading straight for the Aranda Enterprises skyscraper in Santa Fe.
When he pushed through the glass doors of the top-floor boardroom, the entire board of directors was assembled. At the head of the long mahogany table sat Doña Esther, flanked by Marcela and the family’s senior legal counsel, Licenciado Peralta.
"Alejandro," Esther said smoothly, not even flinching as he burst in. "You shouldn't be driving in your hysterical state. We were just discussing your temporary leave of absence."
"The meeting is adjourned," Alejandro announced, his voice ringing across the room like a silver bell. He looked directly at the board members—men who had known his father for decades. "My mother and sister are under active criminal investigation for attempted murder, unlawful confinement, and poisoning."
Gasps erupted across the room. Board members began whispering frantically to one another.
"That is a slanderous lie!" Marcela shouted, standing up, her hands trembling. "He’s lost his mind over that low-class girl! He’s throwing wild accusations to cover up his wife’s infidelity!"
"Is it a lie, Marcela?"
The boardroom doors opened once more. Rodrigo stepped inside, holding a fireproof steel box and a police captain dressed in full tactical gear.
"Mrs. Esther Aranda," Captain Delgado spoke, stepping forward. "We have a warrant for your arrest, as well as the arrest of Marcela Aranda and Dr. Valenzuela, based on physical evidence recovered from your estate's basement and forensic toxicology reports from Santa Fe Medical Center."
Esther’s face turned into stone, but she did not panic. She slowly stood up, placing her manicured hands on the table.
"You think a few bruises on a maid’s daughter can ruin me, Alejandro?" Esther sneered, her mask dropping completely in front of the entire corporate board. "I built this empire! Your father was a weak, pathetic fool who would have lost everything if I hadn't taken control!"
"You didn't just take control, Esther," Alejandro said, stepping closer to her, holding up a yellowed piece of paper Rodrigo had just handed him from the steel box. "You murdered him."
The room went dead silent.
"Thirty years ago," Alejandro read from the certified autopsy report, "my father, Mateo Aranda, discovered that Marcela was not his biological child. She was the daughter of his business rival, Ernesto Sordo. When my father threatened to rewrite his will and remove you from the trust, he suddenly died of 'acute heart failure.' But this toxicology report—hidden by my father’s personal doctor before he vanished—shows he was poisoned with the exact same Brugmansia toxin you used on Valeria!"
Esther’s chest heaved. Her aristocratic composure crumbled into pure, unadulterated venom. She looked at Alejandro with absolute hatred.
"He was going to leave everything to his illegitimate brother!" Esther shrieked, her voice echoing off the glass walls. "I gave thirty years of my life to this family! I wasn't going to let some bastard take my children's inheritance! And I certainly wasn't going to let that little art restorer bring it all to light!"

"Take them away," Captain Delgado ordered.
As the police officers moved in, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto Doña Esther and Marcela, the board members watched in absolute horror. Marcela began screaming and weeping, blaming her mother, while Esther marched out with her head held high, cursing Alejandro with every step.
