Chapter 6 - A Real Vow

One Year Later

The warm summer sun sparkled over the crystal-clear waters of a quiet coastal estate in Newport, Rhode Island. Blue hydrangeas lined the stone pathway leading down to a simple, elegant wooden gazebo overlooking the ocean.

There were no high-society politicians present. No news cameras, no bodyguards, and no hundred-thousand-dollar flower arrangements.

Only thirty of the people who mattered most.

Nora stood beside the altar as the maid of honor, looking radiant in a blush pink dress, her face fully healed, smiling warmly as the violin quartet began to play a gentle melody.

Jack Mercer stood at the altar, wearing a tailored navy suit. His eyes were bright, his smile wide and free of the heavy shadows that had burdened him for years. Following the trial that sentenced Richard Mercer and Marcus Vance to lengthy federal prison terms, Jack had liquidated the corrupt assets of the Mercer empire, returning tens of millions of dollars to the housing charity's legitimate victims and establishing a genuine foundation in Emma's name.

The wooden doors of the garden opened.

Emma stepped onto the green lawn.

She wore a breathtaking, simple white lace gown that flowed softly around her feet. Her blonde hair fell in soft ringlets over her shoulders, and her ankle was fully healed, her step light and confident.

As she walked down the aisle toward Jack, there were no bruises beneath her dress. No secrets. No fear.

Jack stepped down from the altar to meet her halfway, taking both of her hands in his.

"You look breathtaking, Mrs. Mercer," Jack whispered, his voice filled with overwhelming love.

"And you're right on time, Mr. Mercer," Emma smiled, a tear of joy slipping down her cheek.

The justice of the peace stepped forward, smiling at the young couple. "We are gathered here today to unite two hearts that have already proven their strength against the fiercest storms."

Jack reached into his pocket and pulled out two modest gold wedding bands. He looked into Emma’s eyes, his voice steady and true.

"Emma, one year ago, you walked through fire to bring truth into the light. You taught me what real courage looks like. I promise to honor you, protect you, and stand by your side through every storm that comes our way. You are my home."

Emma slipped the gold ring onto Jack’s finger, her smile lighting up the entire coast.

"Jack, you chose truth over power, and love over fear. You held my hand when the world was tearing apart around us. Today, I give you my heart, my life, and my future—forever."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Jack pulled Emma close, dipping her gently as he pressed his lips to hers under the warm afternoon sun. The small crowd erupted into cheers and applause, throwing white rose petals into the summer breeze.

Hand in hand, Jack and Emma walked back up the aisle together—ready to begin a new life built on truth, justice, and an unbreakable love.
