Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

One Year Later

The warm sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of a stunning coastal estate in Italy. Overlooking the sparkling blue waters of Amalfi, this home was different from the cold, fortress-like mansion on Long Island. There were no dark oil paintings or bulletproof nurseries here—only bright white walls, colorful gardens, and the sound of laughter echoing through open doors.

In the courtyard, little Leo—now a energetic, healthy fourteen-month-old toddler with a mop of dark hair—was gleefully chasing a golden retriever puppy across the grass. His chubby legs wobbled as he ran, letting out bright, musical squeals of delight.

"Leo, slow down! The puppy needs a break!" Hunter laughed, walking out onto the terrace.

She looked radiant. The shadows beneath her eyes were entirely gone, replaced by a healthy glow and a smile that lit up the room. She wore a simple white sundress, her hair flowing freely in the Mediterranean breeze.

Two arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind. Lorenzo rested his chin on her shoulder, pressing a soft kiss to her neck.

"He gets his speed from me," Lorenzo murmured with a soft smile, watching his son play. "And his stubbornness."

"He gets his stubbornness from both of us," Hunter corrected playfully, turning in his arms to wrap her hands around his neck.

Lorenzo Rossi was a changed man. While he still commanded immense respect and power, the dark, merciless Don who was once consumed by blood and vengeance had found peace. The Moretti syndicate was entirely a memory of the past, and Lorenzo had shifted his business holdings into legitimate global enterprises, cutting ties with the underworld to build a safe, peaceful future for his family.

Lorenzo looked down at Hunter, his heart overflowing. One year ago, she was a broken, grieving woman scrubbing floors in his mansion, and he was a broken, grieving father watching his son die. Together, they had healed each other's deepest wounds.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.

Hunter gasped softly, her eyes shimmering with tears as Lorenzo dropped to one knee on the sunny terrace.

"Hunter," Lorenzo said, his voice filled with deep, unwavering emotion. "You came into my life when it was pitch black. You saved my son. You saved me. You gave us a home when we only had a fortress. I love you with everything I am."

He opened the box, revealing a magnificent diamond ring that caught the Italian sunlight.

"Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you be Leo's mother, officially and forever?"

Tears of joy spilled down Hunter's cheeks. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

"Yes! Yes, Lorenzo, absolute yes!" she cried out.

Lorenzo slid the ring onto her finger, standing up to lift her into his arms and spinning her around as she laughed. Leo ran over, babbling happily and tugging at his father's pant leg, wanting to be part of the hug.

Lorenzo scooped Leo up in his other arm, pulling his son into the embrace. Leo beamed, leaning over to kiss Hunter’s cheek, calling out his very first clear word: "Mama!"

Hunter pressed her forehead against Lorenzo’s, holding her son tight as the warm Italian sun shone down upon them. The dark days of loss, violence, and pain were finally gone, replaced by a love that had reborn them all.
