Chapter 6 - A Sterling Legacy

Six months later.
The grand gardens of the Sterling Estate were bathed in the warm, golden glow of a late afternoon sun. Thousands of white roses and blooming jasmines filled the air with a sweet, intoxicating scent.
A string quartet played soft, beautiful melodies near the marble fountain, where over two hundred guests—including business leaders, news anchors, and true friends—gathered under a magnificent canopy of white silk.
Today was not a corporate merger masquerading as a wedding.
Today was the renewal of vows between Julian Sterling and Hannah Sterling.
Inside the private dressing room of the main house, Hannah stood before a full-length mirror. She wore a breathtaking, custom-made ivory silk gown that flowed around her like liquid pearl, its long lace sleeves embroidered with tiny platinum diamonds. Her hair was styled in soft, elegant waves, topped with a delicate veil.
She looked every bit the queen she was born to be—radiant, powerful, and utterly loved.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and the door opened to reveal little Toby, dressed in a adorable tiny black tuxedo that matched his father's. He held a small velvet pillow carrying two simple platinum bands.
"Mommy!" Toby giggled, running over and throwing his arms around her knees. "Daddy says it's time! You look like a princess!"
Hannah bent down, picking up her son and kissing his soft cheek. "Thank you, my sweet boy. Are you ready to give Daddy the rings?"
"Yes!" Toby beamed proudly.
Behind him, Eleanor walked into the room, dressed in a simple, respectful navy lace gown. The arrogance that had once defined her was completely gone, replaced by a quiet, gentle dignity. She stepped up to Hannah, holding a small velvet box.
"Hannah, my dear," Eleanor said softly, her eyes glistening with pride. "This belonged to Julian’s grandmother. I should have given it to you four years ago."
She opened the box, revealing a stunning sapphire necklace that matched the color of Hannah’s eyes. With gentle hands, Eleanor fastened the necklace around Hannah’s neck.
"Thank you, Mother," Hannah said gently, giving the older woman a warm smile.
Out in the garden, the guests stood up in applause as Hannah walked down the white aisle, her arm resting gracefully in Gabriel’s.
Standing at the altar under a canopy of blooming white roses was Julian. As he watched his wife walk toward him, the powerful, invincible CEO wept openly, overcome by a love so profound it defied words.
When Gabriel placed Hannah’s hand in Julian’s, Julian wrapped his fingers tightly around hers, bringing her hand to his lips and pressing a deep kiss onto her knuckles.
"You took your time, Mrs. Sterling," Julian whispered, his gray eyes shining with endless devotion.
"I had to make sure you were waiting," Hannah whispered back, her smile lighting up the entire garden.
The ceremony was swift, beautiful, and deeply moving. When the officiant finally declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife... again," Julian didn't wait. He pulled Hannah into his arms, dipping her low as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sent the entire audience into a thunderous, standing ovation.
Late that night, after the guests had departed and Toby was fast asleep in his bedroom, Julian led Hannah up to the private top-floor balcony overlooking the illuminated city skyline.
The cool night breeze rustled the silk of her dress as Julian stepped up behind her, wrapping his strong arms around her waist, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" Julian murmured in her ear, pressing a soft kiss against her neck.
Hannah looked out over the sparkling lights of the city below, remembering the cold, terrifying nights she had spent in the asylum, the tired shifts she had worked as a hotel maid, wondering if she would ever see her son again.
"I'm thinking about that day in the ballroom," Hannah admitted softly, turning in his arms to loop her hands around his neck. "What if Toby hadn't run across the floor? What if he hadn't called me 'mommy'?"
Julian looked down at her, his dark gray eyes filled with an unwavering, eternal warmth.
"He knew his mother’s heart, Hannah," Julian said, his hand coming up to gently cup her cheek, his thumb tracing her cheekbone. "Just like I knew mine belonged to you. You weren't just a maid who walked into my house... you were the light that saved my entire soul."
He bent his head, his lips touching hers in a soft, lingering kiss under the starry sky.

"The entire world thought you were just a servant in a plain uniform," Julian whispered against her lips. "But you were always my queen."
Hannah smiled, burying her face in the warmth of his chest as the city lights twinkled beneath them—a testament to a love that had defied lies, conquered betrayal, and built an invincible kingdom that would last forever.
