Chapter 6 - A Crown of Her Own

One year later.

The Grand Regent Hotel’s crystal ballroom was once again filled with light, music, and the laughter of high society. But tonight was not an engagement gala for a dishonest family. Tonight was the annual Vance Foundation Gala—a charity event dedicated to funding small businesses and healthcare access for low-income families across the country.

The ballroom was decorated in breathtaking white roses and gold silk. Guests mingled happily, sipping champagne and praising the incredible philanthropic work led by the young CEO.

At the edge of the room, a woman in a faded, worn coat pressed her face against the glass doors, watching the celebration inside.

It was Catherine Montgomery.

Her hair was messy, her face aged by months of poverty and stress. After being released on probation, she was living in a small studio apartment, working as a late-night cleaner to pay off her court fines. Julian was working two jobs as a delivery driver, his dreams of luxury completely destroyed.

Catherine watched through the glass as Maya walked into the center of the ballroom.

Maya was radiant. She wore a magnificent silk emerald-green gown that flowed around her like liquid jewel, a sparkling diamond necklace resting against her collarbone. Her beauty and authority were absolute.

Beside her stood Gabriel, now her official partner and COO of Vance Global. He wore a crisp tuxedo, his arm wrapped securely around Maya’s waist, looking at her with a look of pure, unadulterated devotion.

As the orchestra began to play a slow, graceful waltz, Gabriel bowed to Maya, extending his hand.

Maya smiled—a warm, genuine smile that lit up the entire room—and placed her hand in his. They stepped into the center of the dance floor, moving together in perfect harmony, moving as one under the glowing crystal chandeliers.

"Are you happy, my queen?" Gabriel whispered into her ear as he spun her gently across the floor.

Maya leaned her head against his shoulder, her eyes shining with joy as she looked around the room filled with people whose lives she was helping change.

"I have my family, I have my father’s honor restored, and I have the man who would burn the world to protect me," Maya replied softly, looking up into his amber eyes. "I have everything I ever wanted."

Gabriel smiled, dipping her low as the song reached its peak, pressing a sweet kiss onto her lips amidst the thunderous applause of the crowd.

Outside, Catherine turned away from the glass, pulling her worn coat tight against the cold night wind, stepping into the dark shadows of the street.

Inside, under the golden lights, the woman they had tried to strip and destroy danced on—crowned not by wealth or titles, but by the undeniable strength of her own invincible heart.
