Chapter 7 - The Sun Returns

By three o'clock that afternoon, the black armored SUV pulled back up the grand driveway of Blackwood Manor.

Nora sat on the stone terrace overlooking the valley, wearing her warm cashmere sweater, a sketchbook resting in her lap. For the first time in months, she had picked up a charcoal pencil, drawing the sweeping lines of the autumn trees lining the ridge.

Hearing the sound of heavy footsteps on the stone steps, she turned around.

Dante walked out onto the terrace. He had removed his heavy coat, wearing only his dark trousers and a dark grey dress shirt with the collar open. In his hand, he held a blue leather folder stamped with official legal seals.

Nora stood up, her heart pounding in her chest as she searched his face for any sign of bad news. "Dante? How... how did it go?"

Dante walked over to her, his expression calm and unreadable as usual. He held out the blue folder toward her.

"Open it," he said softly.

Nora took the folder with trembling fingers and flipped it open.

Inside were two signed court documents. The first was a permanent, ironclad restraining order prohibiting Cameron Vance from coming within five miles of Nora Bennett, issued with immediate criminal enforcement authority. The second document was a full transfer of legal guardianship for her mother, moving her into a world-class private care facility in the northern hills—fully paid for life under an independent trust in Nora’s name.

Nora stared at the signatures at the bottom of the pages—signatures written in Cameron’s and Richard’s own ink.

"Cameron is on a train out of the state as we speak," Dante informed her, his deep voice carrying a quiet, profound warmth. "He will never put his hands on you again. His uncle has surrendered all authority over your mother. You are completely, utterly free, Nora."

Nora stood frozen on the sunny terrace, staring at the papers that restored her life, her dignity, and her mother’s safety in a single afternoon.

The blue folder slipped from her hands, cluttering onto the stone floor.

She looked up at Dante—this dark, dangerous prince of the underworld who had stepped between her and her nightmare without hesitation—and a wave of overwhelming, pure emotion broke through the last remaining walls of her heart.

She stepped forward, threw her arms around Dante’s neck, and buried her face against his chest.

Dante stiffened for a fraction of a second, entirely unused to such open, vulnerable affection. But then his broad arms swept around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest, shielding her from the wind just as he had done in the club the night before.

"Thank you..." Nora sobbed, her tears soaking into his dark grey shirt. "Thank you, Dante... you saved my life..."

"You saved yourself, little bird," Dante murmured into her soft hair, his strong hands holding her securely. "You just needed someone to hold the cage door open."
