Chapter 2 - The Edge of the Abyss

The private wing of the Vance Memorial Hospital was instantly transformed into a fortress. Outside, the paparazzi were swarming like vultures, tipped off by the sudden arrival of police cruisers. On Facebook, rumors were already flying, but the Thorne PR machine remained dead silent. Marcus didn't care about the stock market; he was staring through the glass window of the emergency operating theater.

"The placenta has partially detached due to the blunt force trauma," Jonathan said, stepping out of the scrub room, his white coat stained with crimson. "We have no choice, Marcus. We have to deliver the baby via emergency C-section right now. Khloe is bleeding internally."

Marcus felt the room spin. "Save them, Jonathan. If I lose them..."

"I will do everything in my power. But you need to prepare yourself. Isabella didn't just want to end your marriage. She wanted to erase Khloe entirely."

While Khloe fought for her life on the operating table, the war outside escalated. Within two hours of the arrest, Victor Rossi, the billionaire patriarch of the Rossi empire, arrived at the police precinct with a team of twenty defense attorneys.

By 3:00 AM, a coordinated media campaign launched on social media. Fake medical reports were leaked online, claiming Khloe Thorne had been suffering from severe prenatal psychosis and had self-harm tendencies. The narrative was being twisted: Isabella was being framed by a jealous, mentally unstable wife, and the hospital security footage was allegedly "AI-manipulated" by the Vance family to protect Khloe.

Marcus’s phone buzzed continuously. The Thorne Industries board of directors was panicking as the company’s stock began to dip in after-hours trading.

Marcus answered a call from his head of security, Gabe. "Sir, we tracked the source of the fake medical leaks. They didn't just come from the Rossis. Someone inside our own circle gave them access to Khloe’s private medical history files weeks ago."

Marcus’s eyes darkened into twin pools of ice. "Who?"

"Elaine Parker," Gabe replied. "The event coordinator. She’s been on the Rossi payroll for six months."
