Chapter 1 - The Verdict of the Lens

The fake tears streaming down Isabella Rossi’s face didn't soften the atmosphere in the room; they made it freeze. Marcus Thorne didn't look at Isabella's outstretched, trembling hands. His eyes were locked onto the crimson stains rapidly spreading across the white silk of Khloe's maternity gown.
"Marcus, you have to believe me!" Isabella sobbed, her voice a pitch-perfect imitation of a traumatized victim. "She lost her mind! She lunged at me with a champagne glass because she’s jealous of us! I only pushed her away in self-defense!"
Marcus walked past her as if she were a ghost. The silence radiating from him was more terrifying than any roar of anger. He dropped to his knees on the hard marble, heedless of the glass shards cutting into his custom tuxedo.
"Khloe," he whispered, his hands hovering over her body, terrified that touching her might cause more pain. "Khloe, stay with me. Breathe. Look at me."
"Marcus... our baby..." Khloe gasped, her fingers clutching his lapels with fading strength. "Don't let her... don't let her touch..." She couldn't finish. Her eyes rolled back as unconsciousness dragged her under.
"Elaine! Get the trauma team now!" Marcus roared, his voice cracking with a raw, desperate agony that Elaine Parker had never heard from the billionaire tycoon. Elaine stumbled backward out of the room, frantically yelling for help.
Isabella took a step toward the door, her mind already calculated her exit strategy. "Marcus, darling, let the doctors handle her. We need to leave before the press catches wind of her erratic behavior—"
"If you move one more inch, Ms. Rossi, my security team will treat you as an active threat," a cold, authoritative voice boomed from the threshold.
Dr. Jonathan Vance, the Chief Hospital Director and Khloe’s maternal uncle, strode into the suite. Behind him were four armed campus security officers and two city police detectives who had been stationed downstairs for the gala. Jonathan’s face was a mask of absolute fury.
Isabella drew herself up, her wealthy arrogance returning. "Dr. Vance, your niece attacked me. If your guards touch me, my father’s legal team will dismantle this hospital by morning."
"Is that so?" Jonathan raised a digital tablet, turning the screen toward Isabella, Marcus, and the arriving police officers. "Then let’s see how your father’s lawyers explain this."
Jonathan pressed play. The high-definition security feed from the suite's hidden medical monitor filled the screen. It didn't just show an argument. It showed Isabella lunging at Khloe. It showed the brutal, calculated strike of Isabella’s stiletto heel driving into a seven-month pregnant belly.

The room went completely breathless. The police detectives looked from the screen to Isabella, their expressions hardening.
"Isabella Rossi," Detective balance said, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for aggravated assault, domestic battery, and attempted feticide."
