Chapter 4: The Fall of the House of Vance

The fallout was catastrophic for the Vance family. The video went completely viral on Facebook, garnering over fifty million views in less than twelve hours. The public outrage was unprecedented. Citizens were furious at the sheer arrogance and cruelty of the wealthy elite targeting a vulnerable mother in her hospital bed.

Stock prices for Vance Global Logistics plummeted by forty percent by the opening bell the next morning. Board members frantically called an emergency meeting, demanding Arthur Vance’s resignation.

But the real drama was unfolding at the city jail.

Evelyn Vance, dressed in an orange jumpsuit that clashed horribly with her manicured aesthetic, sat across from her high-priced defense attorney behind the glass partition. She looked exhausted, her hair messy, her aristocratic pride utterly shattered.

"Get me out of here!" Evelyn hissed, slamming her hands against the glass. "Bail me out! I don't care how much it costs!"

"There is no bail, Evelyn," the lawyer said, his face grim. "Because Julia is a federal judge, the case has been elevated to a federal level. The judge assigned to your arraignment is one of Julia’s former mentors. They view this as a direct attack on the judiciary system. You are considered a flight risk due to your private jet and overseas assets. You’re staying here until the trial."

"What about Mark?" Evelyn gasped.

"Mark is singing like a canary," the lawyer sighed, rubbing his temples. "He completely broke down during interrogation. He signed a full confession, admitting that you masterminded the entire adoption scheme to save Sarah's marriage, and that he went along with it because he was terrified of you cutting off his trust fund. He’s turning state’s evidence against you in exchange for a lighter sentence."

Evelyn felt the world spinning around her. Her own son had betrayed her. Her husband’s company was dying. Everything she had built on a foundation of pride and cruelty was turning to ash.

A week later, the civil divorce and custody hearing took place. Because of the criminal charges, the proceeding was swift.

Mark sat across from Julia in the courtroom, looking pale and broken. Julia sat flanked by Diana, looking radiant and powerful. She had her twins in a secure room adjacent to the court, cared for by a trusted nanny.

The presiding judge didn't waste any time. "Based on the overwhelming evidence of criminal complicity, attempted child endangerment, and malicious defamation, this court grants a total and absolute dissolution of marriage. Julia Rios-Vance is granted sole legal and physical custody of the children, Leo and Maya."

The judge turned a harsh glare toward Mark. "Mark Vance, your parental rights are hereby terminated permanently. You are stripped of any right to visitation, and you are ordered to pay maximum child support, which will be garnished directly from your remaining frozen assets. Furthermore, you are banned from ever approaching within five hundred feet of Ms. Rios or the children for the rest of your natural life."

Mark wept openly, but Julia didn't feel a shred of pity. He had stood by and watched his mother try to rip her family apart. He deserved exactly what he got.

As Julia walked out of the courtroom, Arthur Vance intercepted her in the hallway. The once-mighty tycoon looked like he had aged twenty years.

"Julia, please," Arthur begged, falling to his knees in front of her as reporters snapped photos. "Vance Global is ruined. We’re bankrupt. Evelyn is going to prison for twenty years. Mark is facing ten. Please, drop the civil damages lawsuit. Leave us with something."

Julia paused, looking down at the man who had ignored his wife's cruelty for decades.

"You built your empire on the backs of people you thought were weaker than you, Arthur," Julia said coldly. "You watched your wife treat people like garbage for thirty years and said nothing because it kept your pockets full. Now, the bill is due. I won't drop a single charge. Every dime I win from your family’s bankruptcy will be donated to the foster care systems and shelters for abused mothers."

She walked past him, her heels clicking authoritatively on the marble floor, leaving the broken dynasty behind her.
