Chapter 3: The Public Exposure

Chapter 3: The Public Exposure
Within forty-eight hours, the smear campaign against Julia had reached a fever pitch. Mark appeared on a local daytime talk show, looking deliberately disheveled, wiping away fake tears as he pleaded into the camera.
"I just want to see my babies," Mark sobbed on screen. "Julia completely changed the moment she got her judicial appointment. She became cold, controlling. She forced me out of our home and is using her powerful friends in law enforcement to keep me away. I’m terrified for the mental stability of my children."
In her elegant high-rise apartment, secured by private guards, Julia watched the broadcast with a calm expression. Beside her, Diana was typing furiously on her laptop.
"We got it," Diana smiled triumphantly, turning the screen toward Julia. "The PR firm that launched the video and booked Mark on this talk show was paid directly via a shell company registered to Evelyn Vance's personal assistant. We have the bank wire transfers, the email correspondence detailing the script Mark was supposed to read, and the original unedited audio files they stole from your old phone backups."
"Perfect," Julia said, standing up. For the first time since giving birth, she was dressed not in a hospital gown, but in a tailored, sharp navy suit. Her postpartum weakness was gone, replaced by the indomitable spirit of a mother protecting her pack. "Is the press conference set up?"
"Every major news outlet in the state is waiting outside the federal courthouse," Diana confirmed. "They think you're going to resign or issue a tearful apology."
"They're going to be disappointed," Julia smiled.
One hour later, the steps of the Federal Courthouse were packed with reporters, cameras, and a small crowd of protestors hired by the Vance family holding signs that read “Unfit Mother, Unfit Judge.”
When Julia stepped out of the black SUV, the crowd erupted into a frenzy of shouting and camera flashes. She walked up to the podium with absolute grace, her posture straight, her gaze steady. She didn't look like a victim; she looked like an executioner.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the press," Julia began, her voice carrying perfectly through the microphones. "For the past seventy-two hours, my family and my character have been subjected to a highly coordinated, malicious defamation campaign. My husband, Mark Vance, has claimed on national television that I am withholding his children and suffering from mental instability."
She paused, letting the murmurs quiet down.
"Today, I am releasing the unedited, raw security footage from the hospital VIP suite, recorded just three hours after I gave birth via emergency surgery."
Diana hit a button, and a massive projector screen behind Julia came to life. The video played with crystal-clear audio.
The entire press corps gasped as they watched Evelyn Vance slap a stack of papers down, coldly stating: "One of these babies belongs to this family. Sign the papers." They watched in horror as Mark lowered his eyes, doing nothing as his mother tried to pull a bassinet away from a screaming, weak Julia. They heard Evelyn clearly orchestrate the plan to steal Julia's daughter to give to her other child.
The crowd of protestors slowly lowered their signs. The reporters were in a state of shock.
"Furthermore," Julia continued smoothly, raising a stack of documents. "We have traced the financial pipeline of the smear campaign. Here are the wire transfers from Evelyn Vance’s personal accounts to the PR firms and the actors hired to defame me. This is not a domestic dispute. This is a criminal syndicate operating under the name of the Vance Family Trust, attempting to human-traffic a newborn child through coercion and extortion."
The journalists went wild, shouting questions, but Julia raised her hand, silencing them instantly.

"I have already signed the arrest warrants for Evelyn Vance and Mark Vance for attempted child abduction, institutional fraud, and conspiracy. The federal marshals are executing those warrants as we speak."
Julia leaned into the microphone, her eyes burning with icy resolve. "To the Vance family: you thought wealth made you untouchable. You forgot that the law protects everyone—even the orphans you look down upon. See you in court."
