Chapter 8 - The Unspoken Feeling

The scandal caused by the Sterlings backfired completely. Public sympathy swung entirely in my favor, and our legal team used the incident to secure a permanent restraining order against Julian and Victoria, barring them from approaching the estate or contacting the children.

The victory brought an unprecedented sense of relief to the house.

To celebrate Maisie and Rosie's six-month milestone, I decided to host a small, private dinner on the garden terrace—just Elise, the girls, Mrs. Gable, and myself.

The evening was warm, filled with the scent of blooming jasmine. String lights illuminated the terrace, casting a romantic, amber glow over the table.

After dinner, Mrs. Gable took the girls upstairs for their evening bath, leaving Elise and me alone on the terrace.

I poured two glasses of wine and handed one to her. We walked toward the stone balustrade, looking out over the quiet, dark gardens.

"Six months," I said softly. "Three months ago, I thought my life was over. I thought I would spend the rest of my days living in a cold, dark house, watching my daughters grow up distant from me."

I turned to look at her. The soft starlight reflected in her deep brown eyes.

"You saved us, Elise," I said, my voice rich with emotion. "You brought light back into this house. You brought me back to life."

Elise looked down at her wine glass, her fingers trembling slightly. "Vance... I just did what anyone with a heart would do."

"No," I stepped closer, setting my glass down on the stone ledge. I reached out, gently placing my hand over hers. "No one else did it. They ran away. You stayed. You fought for my girls, and you fought for me."

Elise raised her head, looking up at me. The air between us grew thick with intense, magnetic anticipation.

I leaned in slowly, giving her every chance to pull away. But she didn't. She tilted her head up, her lips parting slightly.

I brought my lips down to hers, tasting the sweetness of the wine and the soft warmth of her mouth. The kiss was gentle at first, hesitant, but as I wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her close against my chest, it deepened into something passionate, hungry, and deeply emotional.

When we finally separated, both of us were breathing heavily.

Elise looked at me, her eyes wide with a mixture of wonder and sudden fear.

"Vance..." she whispered, her hand resting against my beating heart. "Is this... is this because of Clara? Are you looking for her in me?"

The question hit me like a splash of cold water.

I stared at her, seeing the vulnerability in her eyes. I knew I had to answer with absolute, unfiltered truth.

"Clara will always have a place in my past, Elise," I said firmly, taking both of her hands into mine. "She was my first love, and she gave me my beautiful daughters. But I am not looking for her in you. I see you. I see your strength, your kindness, your fierce heart. I am falling in love with Elise Navarro."

Tears glistened in her eyes, a radiant smile breaking across her face. "I'm falling in love with you too, Vance."
