Chapter 10 - The Dawn of Tomorrow

One year later.
The grand gardens of the Caruso estate were decorated with white ribbons, fresh roses, and fairy lights twined through the high trees. The afternoon sun shone brightly, casting a warm, golden light over the hundred guests gathered on the lawn.
Soft violin music floated through the summer air.
I stood at the altar near the marble fountain, wearing a custom black tuxedo. Beside me stood my vice president, serving as my best man.
The music shifted to a slow, breathtaking processional.
Mrs. Gable walked down the aisle first, pushing a double stroller decorated with white flowers. Sitting inside were fourteen-month-old Maisie and Rosie, wearing matching little white lace dresses, throwing flower petals onto the grass with delighted giggles.
Then, the crowd stood up.
My breath caught in my throat.
Elise walked down the aisle, holding a bouquet of white lilies. She wore an exquisite, floor-length ivory gown that hugged her graceful figure, her dark hair styled in soft curls draped over her shoulders. She looked breathtakingly beautiful—a vision of pure light, strength, and grace.
As she reached the altar, she looked up at me, her brown eyes shining with deep, radiant joy.
I took her hands into mine, feeling the gentle warmth of her skin.
"We gathered here today," the officiant began, "to unite two souls who found each other not in the absence of hardship, but through the courage to heal together."
When it came time for our vows, I looked into Elise’s eyes, holding both her hands tightly.
"Elise," I said, my voice rich with deep emotion. "A year ago, I was a man living in total darkness. I thought my heart was permanently broken, and I believed my home would always be empty. Then you walked into my life with yellow rubber gloves, oversized headphones, and an unshakeable belief that love could heal anything."
The guests chuckled softly, and a tear slipped down Elise’s cheek.
"You saved my daughters," I continued, "and you saved my soul. I promise to love you, respect you, stand by you through every storm, and spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel alone. You are my light, my wife, and the heart of this family."
Elise smiled, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke her vows.
"Vance," she said, looking into my eyes. "I fell in love with you not because your life was perfect, but because you had the courage to open your heart again when it would have been easier to keep it closed. I promise to love you, cherish our daughters, and build a home with you where laughter, warmth, and hope will always reign."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant announced. "You may kiss the bride."
I pulled Elise close, wrapping my arms around her waist, and kissed her deeply. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.
Maisie and Rosie clapped happily from their stroller, their sweet laughter echoing across the garden—the beautiful sound that had saved our lives.

Hand in hand, Elise and I turned to face our family and friends, walking into the bright, sunlit horizon of our new life together.
The darkness was finally gone. Tomorrow had finally arrived.
