Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Traitors

The silence in the study was deafening, broken only by the sound of Marco’s ragged breathing.

"Drop the gun, Marco," Lorenzo commanded, his voice echoing with absolute finality.

Desperate, cornered, and entirely unhinged, Marco suddenly lunged forward, aiming his gun directly at Lorenzo’s head.

BANG.

A single shot echoed through the mansion.

It didn't come from Marco. It came from Valenti.

Marco gasped, dropping his weapon as he collapsed to his knees, clutching his shoulder where Valenti’s bullet had struck him. Valenti’s men instantly swarmed forward, disarming Marco and slamming him face-first onto the carpet, pinning his arms behind his back.

Beatrice dropped to her knees, sobbing hysterically, all her nobility and arrogance completely stripped away. "Lorenzo, please! I was forced! Marco threatened me! I am your father's widow!"

"You are a parasite," Lorenzo said, looking down at her with pure disgust. "And you have dishonored my father’s memory for the last time."

He turned to Valenti. "Take them both to the cellar. Ensure they are stripped of every asset, every account, and every title associated with the Duca name. They will face the syndicate council by nightfall."

"With pleasure, Don Lorenzo," Valenti said, nodding to his men, who dragged the screaming Beatrice and the bleeding Marco out of the room.

When the study was cleared, Lorenzo walked over to the desk, leaned against it, and took a deep breath, clutching his bandaged side as the adrenaline began to fade.

He picked up his phone, tapped the screen, and sent a simple two-word text to the bunker terminal:

It's over.

Down in the concrete room, I saw the message flicker across the monitor screen. I let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief, my knees feeling suddenly weak.

"Mama?" Emma asked, looking up from her toy kit. "Is it safe now?"

May you like

I knelt down, pulling my daughter into a tight, emotional hug, tears of relief finally spilling down my cheeks.

"Yes, baby," I whispered, kissing her forehead. "It's safe now. We're safe."
