Chapter 9 - Healing the Heart

With the threat eliminated and the family secured, a profound peace settled over Dominic's life.

A month later, the sun shone brightly over a newly acquired estate in upstate New York—a beautiful house surrounded by green hills, tall oaks, and a private lake.

In the backyard, Lily was running through the grass in brand-new, perfectly fitting red boots, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Dominic had bought her for her seventh birthday. Her laughter carried over the breeze, bright and completely free of fear.

On the covered patio, Clara sat in a plush armchair, sipping hot tea. She wore a simple white linen dress, her face radiant with health and peace.

Dominic walked out from the house, wearing a comfortable sweater and jeans—a stark contrast to the sharp charcoal suits he wore in the city. He sat on the arm of her chair, sliding his hand over hers.

"The lawyers finalized the trust fund today," Dominic said softly. "Lily is officially secured for life. And the archivist department in the city has been renamed in your honor."

Clara looked up at him, a warm smile touching her lips. "I don't care about the trust funds or the titles, Dominic. I just care about this."

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a fresh, unsealed envelope. It was a new letter, written in her neat handwriting.

"What's this?" Dominic asked, taking it.

"It's a letter I wrote to you this morning," Clara said, her eyes shining with love. "Except this time, I get to hand it to you myself."

Dominic opened the envelope and read the simple, elegant words written inside: Thank you for finding us. We love you.
