Chapter 9 - The Celebration in Tuscany

One year later.

The setting sun cast a golden glow over the rolling vineyards of an estate in the Tuscan countryside outside Florence.

A long wooden banquet table was set under an arbor of white roses and grapevines, lit by soft string lights hanging from the old wooden beams.

Gathered around the table were thirty close friends, medical directors from Clara's foundation, and Arthur Vance, who had retired from security work to manage the estate’s wine production.

Clara sat at the head of the table in a flowing white linen dress, her dark hair pinned back with fresh wildflowers. Beside her, Gabriel raised a glass of red wine, looking around the table at the laughter and quiet happiness surrounding them.

Arthur stood up, raising his glass toward Clara and Gabriel.

"To Gabriel and Clara," Arthur said, his rough voice warm with emotion. "May the peace you fought so hard to find last for the rest of your lives."

"Hear, hear!" the guests cheered, clinking their glasses together.

Gabriel turned to Clara, placing his arm around her waist, pulling her close against his side under the warm summer night.

"Happy?" Gabriel asked softly, his silver eyes searching her face.

"Completely," Clara smiled, resting her hand over his on her lap.
