Chapter 8 - The Redefined Pact

Six months later. London.

The spring rain washed softly over the quiet streets of Kensington, turning the garden leaves a vibrant, fresh green.

Inside a beautiful three-story brick townhouse overlooking a private park, Clara sat at a large mahogany desk in her study, reviewing the annual operating budget for the Bennett Health Initiative.

The foundation had already provided emergency funding for three maternal clinics in East London, operating entirely on legitimate, transparent corporate donations.

A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around her shoulders from behind, pressing a warm kiss against the side of her neck.

"You're working too late, Miss Bennett," Gabriel murmured softly against her skin.

Clara smiled, leaning her head back against his chest.

Gabriel had spent the last six months systematically stepping down from his executive positions in Chicago, liquidating his high-risk assets, and handing over the day-to-day operations of Costa Holdings to a board of independent directors. He had moved to London full-time, taking a simple, elegant apartment two blocks from Clara's townhouse.

He was no longer the feared syndicate boss of Chicago. He was a man learning how to live in the light.

"I’m finalizing the grant approval for the new pediatric wing," Clara said, turning in her chair to face him. "And it's Mrs. Costa in six weeks, remember?"

Gabriel smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that reached all the way to his silver eyes, smoothing away the hard lines that four years of crime had carved into his face.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a simple, elegant platinum band set with a flawless emerald, and slid it onto her finger alongside her engagement ring.

"I remember," Gabriel whispered, pulling her up from her chair into his arms.
