Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Future

Two years later.

A crisp autumn morning broke over the gardens of their Kensington townhouse in London.

Clara sat on a stone bench in the private garden, a thick cashmere shawl wrapped around her shoulders, holding a three-month-old baby boy wrapped in a warm blue blanket.

His name was Leo—named after the constellation that shone brightest over Chicago the night Gabriel had chosen love over power.

The garden gate clicked open, and Gabriel walked down the stone path holding two warm mugs of coffee. He was dressed in a casual charcoal sweater, his eyes glowing with a quiet, profound contentment.

He set the coffee mugs down on the small iron table, dropping down onto one knee beside the stone bench.

Gabriel reached out, his thick, strong finger gently stroking tiny Leo's soft cheek. The baby made a small, contented sigh, his little fist closing around Gabriel’s thumb.

Gabriel looked up from his son, meeting Clara’s dark eyes.

"What are you thinking about?" Gabriel asked softly, smiling.

Clara looked at her husband—the man who had once ruled Chicago's darkest shadows, now kneeling in a quiet London garden, his entire world resting in her lap.

She remembered the letter she had placed on his desk four years ago. She remembered the fear, the locks, the blood, and the long road it had taken to tear down the walls between them.

"I was thinking about the crisis," Clara murmured softly, reaching out to smooth a stray lock of dark hair from Gabriel’s forehead.

Gabriel raised an eyebrow, a soft, teasing smile gracing his lips. "Which crisis?"

"The one you refused to lose," Clara whispered, pulling his face up to press her lips tenderly against his. "And the one I’m so glad you won."

Gabriel leaned into her touch, his arms wrapping around his wife and son, holding them tight as the morning sun rose over their quiet, safe, and unbroken world.
