Chapter 7 - The Unraveling of the In-Laws

Luke’s conviction was only the first domino to fall.

With Luke headed to a maximum-security prison, Evelyn and I turned our attention to the people who had enabled his monstrous behavior for years: his family.

Victoria Miller, Luke’s mother, had publicly slandered me during the trial, giving interviews to local tabloids claiming I was a gold-digger who had set Luke up to steal his real estate business.

What Victoria didn't know was that Evelyn’s legal team had spent the past three months investigating the Miller family finances.

"Victoria’s primary residence—the three-million-dollar country club estate—was purchased using funds from Luke’s shell company," Sarah Jenkins explained during a meeting at Evelyn’s home. "Funds that were directly traced back to Caroline's stolen family trust."

"So she was living on my money," I said, sipping my tea.

"Every single tile in that house was paid for by your grandfather's hard work," Evelyn said coldly. "And today, we served her with an emergency asset forfeiture order."

That afternoon, federal marshals arrived at Victoria Miller’s estate.

They began cataloging and seizing her luxury vehicles, high-end furniture, jewelry, and bank accounts. Victoria was evicted from the premises on live television, clutching her designer handbag as reporters filmed her sobbing on the front lawn of the house she no longer owned.

Furthermore, Luke’s younger brother, Julian—who had served as the CFO of Luke’s real estate firm—was formally indicted on corporate conspiracy and tax evasion charges for helping Luke launder the stolen trust money.

Within six months of Luke’s arrest, the entire Miller family structure was completely dismantled. Their wealth was gone, their social standing was destroyed, and their crimes were exposed to the entire world.

Sitting in Evelyn’s living room, watching the news coverage of Julian Miller’s arrest, I felt a deep, cleansing sense of justice. They had treated me as an object to be used, abused, and cast aside. Now, they were left with nothing.
