Chapter 3 - The Collapse of the Dynasty

News of Garrett Andrews’ arrest spread through the real estate market like wildfire. By mid-afternoon, headline banners across local financial blogs read: "Mogul Garrett Andrews Arrested for Brutal Assault; Andrews Development Faces Emergency Asset Freeze."

In the private suite of the city's hospital, Charlotte was working. Despite the physical agony, her legal mind was operating at peak capacity. With Garrett in police custody and her parents spiraling in financial ruin, the first phase of her plan was complete. Now began the systematic dismantling of the financial structure that had funded her abuse.

At 3:00 PM, a knock sounded on her door. It wasn't the police or Marcus.

Her mother, Eleanor, burst into the room, past the security guard stationed outside. Eleanor’s signature pristine hair was disheveled, her expensive designer makeup smeared around her eyes. Behind her stood Richard, looking ten years older, his face pale and sweating.

"Charlotte!" Eleanor shrieked, rushing toward the bed. "Look at what you’ve done! You’ve ruined us! You’ve completely destroyed our lives!"

The security guard stepped into the room, reaching for his taser. "Ma'am, step back—"

"It's fine, officer," Charlotte said calmly, holding up her hand. "Give us five minutes."

Richard stepped forward, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and desperation. "Charlotte, do you have any idea what happened today? The title company took our two hundred thousand dollars! Our dream home is gone! The news media is reporting that Garrett is in jail! The whole city is talking about our family! How could you do this to your own mother and father?!"

Charlotte looked at the two people who had raised her. For years, she had craved their approval, pouring millions of dollars into their lifestyle, buying their luxury cars, paying off their debts, and accepting their subtle cruelty just to feel loved. Seeing them now—stripped of their artificial vanity, panicked only about their lost comfort—the last remnants of her emotional attachment evaporated.

"I didn't destroy your life, Dad," Charlotte said evenly. "Your greed did."

"We gave you everything!" Eleanor sobbed, though there were no real tears in her eyes—only fury. "We raised you! We gave you an education! And when your husband gets a little stressed and acts out, you turn into a monster! Marriage is about sacrifice, Charlotte! Do you know what I had to put up with from your father over the years? We stayed together! We preserved our dignity! You are throwing away everything over a few bruised ribs!"

"A few bruised ribs?" Charlotte pointed to the clear plastic tube running into her side, draining fluid from her collapsed lung. "He nearly killed me, Eleanor. If the neighbor hadn't called the police, I would be in a morgue right now."

"You pushed him!" Eleanor yelled, stepping closer. "Garrett told us you were nagging him about money! You know how hard he works! Why couldn't you just keep your mouth shut?!"

Richard nodded in agreement. "Charlotte, be reasonable. Call your lawyer. Drop the charges against Garrett so he can get out on bail and fix this financial freeze. Once the business is stable, we can negotiate a private settlement between you two. You can take a vacation, heal up, and—"

"Get out," Charlotte said softly.

Richard stopped mid-sentence. "What?"

"Get out of my room," Charlotte repeated, her voice dripping with ice. "You didn't come here to check if I was breathing. You didn't come here to ask if I was in pain. You came here because your luxury home evaporated, and your golden goose is in handcuffs."

"You ungrateful little bitch!" Eleanor spat, dropping all pretense of maternal concern. "We are your parents! You owe us!"

"I owed you respect until you proved you had no humanity," Charlotte replied. "As for what I owe you financially? Nothing. In fact, let me remind you of something, Dad. The luxury Lexus you drive is registered under my corporate holding company. The credit cards you use for your country club membership are secondary cards on my business account."

Richard’s face went dead white. "Charlotte... you wouldn't."

"As of 1:00 PM today, both credit cards have been canceled," Charlotte said, staring straight into her father's eyes. "The repossession order for the vehicle has been issued. You have forty-eight hours to vacate the rental condo I pay for, or you will be evicted by the sheriff."

"You can't do this!" Eleanor shrieked, taking a step toward Charlotte with her hands raised. "We are your family!"

"The security guard will escort you out now," Charlotte said coldness turning her words to lead. "If you ever approach me, contact me, or attempt to enter my properties again, I will file full restraining orders against both of you."

May you like

The guard grabbed Eleanor by the arm and pulled her back. Richard stood frozen, looking at his daughter as if seeing a total stranger for the first time. He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out.

"You made your choice," Charlotte quoted her mother's words from the night before, locking eyes with Eleanor as she was dragged toward the door. "Now live with it."
