Chapter 5 - The Fall of the House of Ardell

While Eleanor was consolidating her control over Whitaker Holdings, Victoria Ardell was pacing inside a private interrogation room at the Federal Building. Her high-priced legal team sat across from her, looking thoroughly defeated.

"What do you mean we can't post bail?" Victoria hissed, her fingers digging into the steel table. "I have fifty million dollars in real estate assets!"

"All of which have been frozen by the Department of Justice, Mrs. Ardell," her senior attorney explained grimly. "The evidence Eleanor Whitaker turned over isn't just about tax evasion. It includes offshore money laundering, illegal land seizures, and contract manipulation tied to the city infrastructure projects."

"That paralytic bitch manipulated the records!" Victoria screamed.

The door to the interrogation room opened, and Special Prosecutor Sarah Lin walked in, carrying a laptop. She set it on the table and turned it toward Victoria.

"Mrs. Ardell, we don't need to rely on Mrs. Whitaker’s records," Prosecutor Lin said calmly. "We just executed a search warrant on your private residence in the Hamptons. We found the secondary server room hidden behind your wine cellar."

Victoria’s heart sank into her stomach. "You... you had no warrant for the Hamptons!"

"We did," Lin smiled thin-lipped. "Provided by your daughter, Savannah."

Victoria gasped. "Savannah? My own daughter?"

"Savannah realized two hours ago that she was facing federal obstruction charges as an officer of Ardell Realty," Lin explained. "She traded full cooperation and access to your private servers in exchange for complete immunity."

Victoria sank back into her metal chair, her breath catching in her throat. Her own daughter—the girl she had spent her life grooming to rule the city’s high society—had thrown her to the wolves to save herself.

Meanwhile, across town, Savannah was hiding in a luxury hotel room under an assumed name, frantically packing her designer bags. She knew that once her mother’s associates found out she had turned state's evidence, the city would no longer be safe for her.

Her phone chimed. It was an incoming video call from an unknown number. Thinking it was her lawyer, she answered instantly.

"Is the deal finalized? Do I have the immunity papers?" Savannah blurted out.

The screen lit up, but it wasn't her attorney. It was Eleanor, sitting in her sunlit office at Whitaker Holdings, drinking green tea.

"Hello, Savannah," Eleanor said softly.

Savannah froze, horror washing over her. "How did you get this private number? Are you tracking me?"

"I don't need to track you, Savannah," Eleanor replied smoothly. "I owned the hotel chain you are currently staying in until I sold it last year. I still have master security clearance."

"What do you want from me?" Savannah cried, tears smearing her mascara. "I gave the prosecutors everything on my mother! I didn't help Graham poison you! I didn't know!"

"You didn't know?" Eleanor raised an eyebrow. "You stood by and laughed while your mother poured scalding gravy over my lap. You wore my stolen family heirlooms to your engagement party. You were more than happy to enjoy the profits of my destruction."

"I was just doing what my mother told me!" Savannah sobbed. "Please, Eleanor, don't destroy me. I have nothing left!"

"You have exactly what you deserve, Savannah," Eleanor said coldly. "An empty bank account, a mother in prison, and a reputation so toxic that not a single soul in this city will ever take your call again."

"You monster..." Savannah whispered.

May you like

"No," Eleanor corrected her, her voice steady and absolute. "I am simply the consequences of your choices."

Eleanor ended the call. She looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows of her office, watching the city below. The Ardell empire was collapsing into dust, but Eleanor knew that the real battle was far from over. Graham was still out there, desperate, cornered, and capable of anything.
