Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

The morning sun reflected off the glass facade of the Whitaker Holdings tower, casting sharp shadows across the executive floor. At 7:55 AM, Graham stood near the entrance of the main boardroom, his hair disheveled despite his best efforts to appear composed. Beside him stood his high-priced corporate attorney, Richard Sterling, who was desperately reviewing financial defense strategies.
"If we can delay the vote by forty-eight hours," Sterling whispered, "we can file an emergency injunction claiming Eleanor is mentally unfit to exercise founder voting privileges."
"Just make sure she doesn't take control today," Graham hissed, his knuckles white as he clenched his briefcase. "If she gets back into that seat, I'm ruined."
At precisely 8:00 AM, the elevator doors slid open.
Eleanor walked out. She did not use a wheelchair. She walked slowly, with a measured, deliberate rhythm, relying on her silver cane. She wore a tailored ivory suit—a stark, intentional contrast to the black funeral clothes Graham had forced her to wear during her recovery period. Behind her walked Marcus Vance and a team of four forensic accountants.
The board members, who were already gathered inside, stood up instinctively as she entered. These were men and women who had known Eleanor for over a decade. They had watched her build the company from a small tech startup into a global powerhouse before Graham systematically pushed her into the background.
Eleanor took her seat at the head of the long oval table—the precise chair Graham had occupied for the past eighteen months.
Graham slammed his hands onto the table. "You have no right to sit there, Eleanor! This meeting is illegal! You are no longer an officer of this company!"
Eleanor didn't even look at him. She opened her tablet, adjusted her glasses, and looked around the room. "Good morning, members of the board. Let us call this meeting to order."
"Sterling, speak!" Graham yelled.
Attorney Sterling stepped forward. "Mrs. Whitaker, under Section 4B of the corporate bylaws, any shareholder whose mental or physical capacity is compromised cannot vote on matters of executive governance without a court-appointed custodian."
Eleanor looked up, her gaze icy cold. "Mr. Sterling, if you had checked the medical registry at six o'clock this morning, you would see that the state medical board fully cleared my cognitive and physical capacity, vacating the fraudulent conservatorship Graham established."
She tapped her tablet, and a document appeared on the main screen in the boardroom.
"Furthermore," Eleanor continued, "Dr. Harrison’s sworn affidavit was delivered to the District Attorney’s office three hours ago. In it, he details how Graham paid him monthly stipends to administer high doses of neuro-depressants to induce cognitive lethargy while I was under home care."
A heavy silence fell over the room. The board members turned to stare at Graham with looks of disgust and fear.
"That's a lie!" Graham screamed, his voice cracking. "She’s fabricating evidence!"
"Quiet, Graham," Julian Vance, one of Graham's former supporters, said sternly. "Let her speak."
"Thank you, Julian," Eleanor said smoothly. "Now, onto item two of the agenda: the immediate termination of Graham Whitaker as Chief Executive Officer due to gross fiduciary breach, embezzlement, and treason against corporate governance."
"You need a two-thirds majority for that!" Graham sneered, leaning over the table. "Arthur and Julian will never vote against me. We control forty-five percent of the voting power combined!"
Eleanor tilted her head slightly. "Arthur, would you like to inform Mr. Whitaker how you will be voting today?"
Arthur Pendelton didn't look at Graham. He cleared his throat nervously and pressed the green button on his voting panel. VOTE: YES (FOR REMOVAL).
Graham’s eyes widened in horror. "Arthur! What are you doing? I paid off your—"
"Shut up, Graham!" Arthur shouted, his face turning red.
"And Julian?" Eleanor asked gently.
Julian Vance pressed his button without hesitation. VOTE: YES (FOR REMOVAL).
The digital board displayed the final tally: 89% IN FAVOR OF REMOVAL.
"The motion carries," Eleanor declared calmly. "Graham Whitaker is stripped of all executive authority, effective immediately. His access to company facilities, servers, and accounts is revoked."
"You can't do this to me!" Graham roared, lunging toward Eleanor across the table.
Before he could reach her, two broad-shouldered security guards stepped into the room, grabbing Graham by his arms and forcing him back.
"Get your hands off me!" Graham thrashed, his hair falling into his eyes, his mask of sophistication completely shattered. "I built this company! You were just a sick woman sitting in a bed!"
Eleanor stood up slowly, leaning lightly on her cane. She walked around the table until she was standing inches away from him.
"You didn't build anything, Graham," she whispered so only he could hear. "You were just the salesman I hired to present my ideas. And like any bad employee who steals from the register, you are being let go."
She nodded to the guards. "Escort the former CEO off the premises. If he resists, file a trespass charge."

As Graham was dragged out of the boardroom screaming threats, Eleanor sat back down at the head of the table. She looked at the remaining board members, whose faces were filled with awe and apprehension.
"Now," Eleanor said smoothly, opening her file. "Let us talk about saving this company from the disaster my ex-husband created."
