Chapter 10 - The Safe Haven

One year later.

The Moretti estate had changed completely. The heavy iron security gates were still there, but they were now decorated with bright green ivy and blooming white roses. The dark, formal gardens had been replaced with open green lawns, a wooden playground, and a custom-built treehouse under the ancient oak tree.

The Moretti organization had completely severed all ties to the underworld, transforming into one of the largest legitimate real estate and international shipping conglomerates on the East Coast, run with absolute integrity by Adrian and Marcus.

On a warm summer afternoon, laughter echoed across the wide lawn.

Lily, now four years old, was running through the sprinklers in a bright yellow swimsuit, chasing a fluffy golden retriever puppy.

On the stone terrace, a large wooden table was set for a family lunch. Marcus sat at the head of the table, laughing as he showed Lily how to fold paper airplanes.

Adrian stood near the rose hedge, wearing a comfortable linen shirt, watching them with a deep sense of peace he had never imagined possible.

Claire walked out onto the terrace, wearing a beautiful floral summer dress. She walked up behind Adrian, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her cheek against his back.

Adrian turned around, pulling her into his arms and lifting her slightly off her feet to kiss her deeply on the lips.

“You look beautiful, Mrs. Moretti,” Adrian whispered against her lips.

Claire smiled radiant, her hand resting on her stomach, which showed a gentle, beautiful bump—their second child, a baby boy, due in four months.

“Lily wants to know if we can build a bigger castle in the backyard,” Claire giggled, tracing the scar beneath his jawline.

“Tell her the blueprints are already approved,” Adrian laughed softly.

Lily came running up the terrace steps, her wet feet splashing on the warm stone, holding a freshly picked dandelion. She thrust it toward Adrian.

“For you, Daddy!” Lily cheered.

Adrian knelt down on the stone terrace, completely uncaring that his trousers got wet. He took the flower from her tiny hand with as much reverence as if it were a precious crown, and pulled both Claire and Lily into a tight, warm embrace.

The dark shadows of the past had vanished forever under the bright New York sun. The most feared crime boss had found his redemption, not through power or wealth, but through the unconditional love of a little girl who had once treated him like a pillow.

They were safe. They were whole. They were family.
