Chapter 10 - The Choice of a Lifetime

Six months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over the rolling green hills of the Cross Estate in the Hamptons.

The grand garden was decorated with thousands of white roses and soft pastel ribbons. Friends, family, and recovered loved ones filled the rows of cream-colored seats. Thomas Mercer sat in the front row, healthy, smiling, and holding Ethan’s hand, both watching with tears of joy in their eyes.

At the front of the altar stood Julian Cross, wearing a sharp black tuxedo. His posture was imposing, but his eyes were soft, filled with an emotional warmth that no financial journal could have ever predicted.

The string quartet began to play a delicate rendition of Canon in D.

The crowd stood up.

Abby walked down the aisle, breathtaking in a flowing ivory lace gown with a long, delicate train. In her hands, alongside a bouquet of white lilies, she carried a small, beautifully restored wooden handle attached to a fresh set of pearl-white feathers—her mother’s Pearl, honorably preserved for the happiest day of her life.

When she reached the altar, Julian stepped down to take her hand. His fingers brushed against hers, warm and steady.

The minister smiled at the couple. "Julian, do you take Abigail to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer?"

Julian looked deep into Abby’s eyes, his voice clear, resonant, and overflowing with devotion.

"I do," Julian said. He turned to face the guests for a brief moment before looking back at his bride. "Eight months ago, I set a test in a room filled with money, believing that every human being could be corrupted by desperation. I thought I knew the world. But Abigail proved me wrong. She showed me that true wealth isn't held in bank accounts or steel towers—it is held in the integrity of your heart. She saved me from my own darkness."

Tears glistened in Abby’s eyes as she smiled through her joy.

"Abigail," the minister turned to her, "do you take Julian to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," Abby whispered, her voice filled with unconditional love. "You showed me that even the coldest heart can become a home if you are patient enough to clean away the shadows."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Julian wrapped his arms around Abby’s waist, lifting her slightly as he brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their futures together. The crowd erupted into loud, joyful applause, standing to honor the billionaire and the woman who had transformed his life.

Later that evening, as the sun set over the ocean, painting the sky in vibrant shades of pink and gold, Julian and Abby walked hand-in-hand along the quiet beach.

Julian pulled a small, elegant silver key from his pocket and held it out to her.

Abby laughed softly, looking at the key. "Another test, Mr. Cross?"

"No, Mrs. Cross," Julian smiled warmly, sliding the key into her palm and wrapping her fingers around it. "This key doesn't open a safe. It opens the foundation of our new life together. Everything I have, everything I am, belongs to you."

Abby leaned her head against his shoulder, listening to the rhythmic soothing sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore.

"I don't need your billions, Julian," Abby whispered, pulling him close for one last kiss under the starlight. "I already have everything I ever wanted."

Julian smiled, holding her tight as the night enveloped them in warmth, peace, and an everlasting love that no amount of money could ever buy.
