Chapter 9 - Clearing the Snake Pit

By dawn, the rain had stopped. A bright, golden sunrise broke over the Manhattan skyline.

The Vale estate was locked down. Dominic and Hannah returned together, their hands intertwined, both bloodied but victorious.

In the grand living room, Eleanor Vale sat bound to a chair, guarded by Marco. The three traitorous capos who had assisted Viktor were on their knees in front of the fireplace, stripped of their weapons.

When the heavy front doors opened and Dominic walked in—alive, breathing, and holding Hannah’s hand—the traitors looked as if they had seen a ghost.

Eleanor gasped, her face turning pale. "Dominic... you're..."

"Alive," Dominic said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "Despite your best efforts, Mother."

"Dominic, please!" Eleanor wept, dropping her haughty act. "I did it for the family! I thought Viktor was going to win! I was trying to preserve our name!"

"You tried to murder my wife," Dominic growled, stepping toward her. "You betrayed your own blood."

"Dominic, I am your mother!" Eleanor shrieked.

Dominic pulled out his gun, cocking the hammer. The room went silent.

"Dominic, stop," Hannah said gently, placing a hand on his arm.

Dominic looked at her, his eyes dark with rage. "She tried to kill you, Hannah."

"I know," Hannah said softly. "But killing your own mother will haunt you for the rest of your life. Don't let her turn you into a monster."

Hannah walked over to Eleanor, leaning down to look her in the eyes.

"You are stripped of the Vale name," Hannah declared, her voice ringing with undisputed Matriarch authority. "Your access to the family trust is revoked. You will be exiled to a guarded villa in northern Italy. You will never see Dominic again. And you will never see my daughters again."

Eleanor sobbed hysterically as Marco dragged her away, along with the three traitors who were taken to face syndicate justice.

With the snakes purged from the house, true peace finally washed over the estate.

Hannah walked upstairs to the nursery.

The door opened softly. Inside, the three little girls were sitting on the plush rug, playing with building blocks under the quiet morning sun.

When they saw Hannah standing in the doorway, their faces lit up like stars.

"MAMA!" Lily, Grace, and Emma cheered in unison. They didn't stumble, they didn't whimper—they ran as fast as their little legs could carry them, throwing themselves into Hannah’s open arms.

Dominic stepped up behind Hannah, leaning against the doorframe, watching his family. Tears welled up in his dark eyes.

Lily looked up at Dominic, reaching one small hand out to him. "Dada... sit! Play!"

Dominic dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around Hannah and all three of his daughters.

"Thank you," Dominic whispered into Hannah’s ear, his voice trembling with deep emotion. "You saved us all."
