Chapter 15: The Lesson They Learned Too Late

The Prescotts learned something important during those months.

They learned that money and connections can buy many things.

But they cannot buy silence from a mother who has spent her life protecting the people she loves.

They cannot buy fear from a woman who has faced worse than them on battlefields across the world.

And they cannot buy mercy from someone they tried to destroy.

Margaret Prescott once told me my military rank didn’t intimidate her.

She was right.

It wasn’t my rank that destroyed them.

It was my love for my daughter.

And that is something no amount of money or influence can ever defeat.

The End
