Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

Friday, 7:00 PM. Bistro Romano.
The private dining room of the upscale Italian restaurant was elegant, lit by warm candlelight. My father, Richard, and Vivian were already seated when Emma, Natalie, and I walked in.
Vivian sat regally, wearing a pearl necklace, looking like a forgiving matriarch. My father looked stern, his arms crossed over his chest.
"I'm glad you kids finally decided to be mature," Richard said coldly. "Emma, sit down. Your mother-in-law is willing to put this behind us if you give a sincere apology."
Emma looked at Vivian. Vivian offered a smug, hypocritical smile, tilting her head as if waiting for a servant to bow.
"I'm not here to apologize, Vivian," Emma said softly, her voice steady and surprisingly strong.
Richard slammed his hand on the table. "What?! Leo, I thought you brought her here to make peace!"
"We did bring peace, Dad," I said quietly, sitting down beside Emma. "The peace of the truth."
Natalie took a portable Bluetooth speaker from her bag, placed it in the center of the table, and tapped her phone screen.
Suddenly, a voice boomed from the speaker. It was high-pitched, raspy, and full of toxic rage:
"You worthless little brat! Drag yourself down those stairs and pick up your food! You think because your ankle is broken you get to sit around like a princess? Crawl! Crawl and say 'Thank you, Mommy'!"
Richard’s face went completely pale. "What... what is that?"
"That’s Mom, Dad," Natalie said, tears welling in her eyes, though her voice remained fierce. "That was recorded ten years ago when I was seventeen, lying at the bottom of the stairs with a shattered ankle while you were away on business trips."
Vivian’s smug face collapsed into absolute horror. "Where... where did you get that?! That’s a fake! A deepfake!"
"Is cousin Sarah’s signed statement a fake too, Mom?" Natalie threw a stack of legal documents onto the table. "And what about the police report from eight years ago when you drove her to a breakdown?"
"Enough!" Richard shouted, looking at Vivian with growing doubt and confusion. "Vivian... what is going on here?"
"They’re lying, Richard! They’re conspiring against me because they hate me!" Vivian shrieked, her voice losing its calm demeanor.
"Are we, Mom?" I asked calmly.

I took out my laptop, opened it, and turned the screen toward my father.
"Here is the unedited, high-definition 4K footage from the nursery last Tuesday at 9:15 AM," I said. "Watch."
