Chapter 5 - The Trap is Set

Instead of replying angrily to Vivian's Facebook post or releasing the video right away, I played along. I wanted her to feel completely victorious, to sink deeper into her own trap.
I texted Vivian directly:
"Mom, Dad called me. Everyone is attacking us online. Emma is distraught. Can we please meet privately at the family restaurant this Friday night? Just you, Dad, me, Emma, and Natalie. Let's settle this without involving the public."
Within five minutes, Vivian replied:
"I'm glad you're finally coming to your senses, Leo. We will meet Friday at 7 PM at Bistro Romano. But Emma needs to apologize to me in front of everyone."
I looked at the text and smiled darkly. "Bistro Romano. Perfect."
For the next four days, Emma and I prepared. We hired a high-profile family lawyer, attorney Marcus Vance, who specialized in domestic emotional abuse and elder/postpartum harassment cases. We secured sworn affidavits from Emma’s doctor detailing the physical trauma she suffered and how the missing pain medication put her life in immediate medical danger.
Natalie flew in from out of state, bringing her tapes, medical records from her broken ankle years ago, and cousin Sarah’s written testimony.
On Thursday night, the day before the dinner, Vivian made one final mistake. Feeling completely dominant, she posted a live video on Facebook, weeping softly, telling her 3,000 followers:
"Tomorrow night, my family is reuniting. I am forgiving my son and his wife for the terrible things they did to me. Love always wins!"

Thousands of people liked the stream, praising her as a saintly mother.
"She built her stage," I told Natalie and Emma as we finalized our plan. "Now, we drop the curtain."
