Chapter 10 - A New Chapter (Happy Ending)

One year later.
The summer sun shone brightly over our backyard. The smell of grilled barbecue filled the air, mixed with the sound of laughter and birds singing.
We were celebrating baby Oliver’s first birthday.
Streamers and colorful balloons decorated the lawn. My father was sitting on a patio chair, joyfully feeding Oliver a small piece of birthday cake while Natalie snapped photos, her smile genuine and radiant.
Emma walked out from the kitchen carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. She wore a bright yellow sundress, her skin glowing with health and happiness. She looked stronger and more vibrant than ever.
I walked up behind her, wrapping my arms gently around her waist, resting my chin on her shoulder.
"Look at them," Emma whispered, watching Oliver giggling happily in my father's arms. "A year ago, I thought my life was over. I thought I was going insane."
"You were never insane, sweetheart," I said, kissing her cheek softly. "You were just fighting a monster. And we won."
Emma turned in my arms, looking into my eyes with deep love and peace. "Thank you for believing me, Leo. Thank you for protecting us."
"Always," I promised.
My phone chimed in my pocket. It was a formal legal notice from our lawyer: Vivian’s latest appeal had been flatly rejected by the high court, ensuring she would serve her full sentence in isolation, far away from our lives forever.
I tossed the phone onto the outdoor table, not caring to give it another second of thought.

The dark shadows of the past were gone. Oliver took his very first independent steps on the soft green grass, falling safely right into Emma’s wide, welcoming arms. Laughter echoed across the yard—a sound of triumph, healing, and pure, unbroken love.
