Chapter 9 - The Siege of Camden Estate

The storm reached its absolute peak at 3:00 AM over the coastal cliffs of Camden, Maine. High waves crashed violently against the jagged rocks below the historic Vale family estate.
Inside the grand stone house, the lights were low. Helena sat in a comfortable armchair in the nursery room she was personally preparing. A single reading lamp illuminated her form as she folded a tiny, white organic cotton onesie. Her stomach was noticeably round now, resting under her soft linen robe.
Suddenly, the house’s internal power cut out. Darkness swallowed the room.
Helena froze, her hand resting instantly on her stomach.
Outside her door, a muffled gunshot echoed through the hallway—a sharp, suppressed thwip-thwip.
The door instantly burst open, and Marcus slid into the room, holding an automatic weapon, his face bleeding from a cut on his forehead.
"Miss Vale! We are under attack!" Marcus hissed, locking the reinforced oak door behind him. "It's a professional hit team—at least eight men! They breached the perimeter security!"
Helena’s heart leaped into her throat, but panic did not take her over. The cold, precise Vale intelligence took control. "Who sent them?"
"Moretti family crest on their gear," Marcus said, dragging a heavy wooden wardrobe across the floor to block the door. "Victor must have sold out your location!"
Outside the bedroom, heavy footsteps marched down the hallway. Shouted commands in harsh voices echoed through the house.
"Search every room! Victor said she's upstairs!" a voice yelled.
Marcus handed Helena a small, compact pistol from his ankle holster. "Stay behind the structural pillar, ma'am. If anyone breaks through that door, shoot without hesitation."
Suddenly, gunfire erupted—not from outside the bedroom, but from the lower floor of the house.
Automated shotgun blasts tore through the silence, accompanied by the screams of men, the sound of breaking glass, and the violent thud of bodies falling down the grand staircase.
"What the hell was that?!" a hitman outside the bedroom door shouted in panic.
"We've got a shooter coming up from the foyer! It's—oh God, it's Blackwood!"
A terrifying, familiar voice roared through the estate—a sound of pure, unadulterated vengeance that made the very walls shake.
"VICTOR SOLD YOU OUT, MORETTI!" Adrian’s voice boomed, followed by three rapid shotgun blasts that shattered the wooden hallway paneling. "EVERY MAN IN THIS HOUSE DIES TONIGHT!"
Inside the locked room, Helena held her breath, her hand clutched tightly over her babies. She heard the brutal, systematic execution of the hit team taking place right outside her door. Adrian moved through the house like a storm of violent fury, showing no mercy, taking no cover, driving forward with a terrifying, single-minded focus to protect the woman he had lost.
Within five minutes, the gunfire stopped.
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the house.
Footsteps approached the bedroom door. Slow, heavy, dripping footsteps.
"Helena?"
Adrian’s voice came from the other side of the barricaded door. It was trembling, raspy, completely stripped of its terrifying anger, replaced by a desperate, terrified hope.
"Helena... please answer me. Are you safe? Are my children safe?"
Marcus looked at Helena, his gun still raised. Helena took a deep breath, stepping out from behind the pillar.
"We are safe, Adrian," she said quietly through the thick oak wood.
A heavy gasp of relief echoed from the hallway. Helena heard Adrian collapse against the door, sliding down the wood until he was sitting on the floor outside.
"Thank God..." Adrian choked out, sobbing openly in the dark hallway, surrounded by the fallen hitmen. "Thank God..."
"Adrian," Helena said, her voice soft through the door. "Go back to Grayhaven. Finish Victor."
There was a long pause. On the other side of the door, Adrian wiped the blood from his brow. He pressed his forehead against the wooden door panel, inches from where Helena stood on the inside.
"I will clean this city for you, Helena," Adrian swore, his voice turning into cold, unbreakable steel. "I will tear down every piece of corruption, every traitor, every menace that threatens you or our children. And when I am done... I will leave the keys to the city on your doorstep."
May you like
"Go, Adrian," she whispered.
He stood up, adjusted his coat, and walked down the bloodstained stairs into the dark night.
