Chapter 3 - The Assembly of the Avengers

At nine o'clock the following morning, while Adrian was supposedly at his downtown office, I pulled into the private underground parking garage of a glass skyscraper in the San Francisco Financial District.

I took the private elevator to the 34th floor, stepping into the high-security suites of Vanguard Legal & Financial Forensic Intelligence.

Standing in the glass boardroom was Marcus Vance—my former mentor, a ruthless veteran corporate litigator, and one of the most feared asset-recovery attorneys in the United States. Beside him stood Detective Frank Brody, a retired federal financial crimes investigator who now ran an elite private intelligence firm.

“Maya,” Marcus said, standing up from the head of the conference table and wrapping me in a strong, protective hug. “When I got your emergency file transmission last night, I couldn't believe my eyes. Is this bastard really trying to pull a total asset execution on you?”

“He isn't just trying, Marcus,” I said, setting my laptop on the table and opening the master dossier. “He thinks he’s forty-eight hours away from completing it.”

Frank Brody adjusted his glasses, leaning over the high-resolution monitors displaying the cloned financial trails.

“Your husband is sloppier than he thinks, Maya,” Frank noted, tapping a finger on a series of wire transfers. “He used a layered offshore structure based in the Cayman Islands to funnel three hundred thousand dollars of your father’s liquid trust into an account controlled by Julian’s shell company, Valen Operations. But he made one critical mistake.”

“What mistake?” I asked.

“He used your social security number to open the initial application online, but used his own personal IP address from your home study to authorize the final routing,” Frank explained, a cold smile touching his lips. “That isn't just civil fraud. That’s federal wire fraud, bank fraud, and identity theft. The FBI’s financial crimes division wet-dreams over cases this clean.”

Marcus folded his hands on the table, looking at me with razor-sharp intensity. “Maya, we have enough right now to file an emergency injunction, freeze all his accounts, and serve him with a civil lawsuit that will stop him in his tracks.”

“No,” I said firmly, my voice dropping into an icy register. “If we file an injunction now, his corrupt lawyer Richard will tip him off. Adrian and Julian will liquidate what liquid cash they have left in offshore crypto wallets, burn the paper trail, and flee the country before the court date.”

“So what do you want to do?” Marcus asked, intrigued.

“I want them to execute the plan,” I revealed.

Frank and Marcus exchanged a surprised glance.

“I’m going to sign the documents Adrian left on my desk,” I explained, pulling out a set of legally binding counter-agreements my team had prepared overnight. “Except I won't be signing his fraudulent deeds. I will be signing modified legal addendums prepared by Marcus that look visually identical to his documents, but contain hidden clauses that legally merge Cole & Associates and all subsidiary holding companies directly into my personal sole-proprietorship estate.”

Marcus’s eyes widened, a slow, delighted grin spreading across his face. “A poison pill conveyance. You’re letting him take control of the shell company, but the moment he executes the transfer on Friday, he will automatically assume absolute personal liability for all of Valen Operations’ accumulated debts, while forfeiting every share of his own firm directly to you.”

“Precisely,” I said. “He thinks he’s luring me into an eviction trap on Friday night. I want to turn his victory party into his financial and legal execution.”

“And what about the other man? Julian?” Frank asked.

“Julian is holding a grand opening celebration for his new ‘consulting offices’ downtown on Friday evening,” I smiled coldly. “Adrian promised to meet him there to celebrate after serving me. I want the federal authorities, the state tax fraud investigators, and the press present when the curtain drops.”

Marcus leaned back in his chair, chuckling softly. “Maya, you are an absolute terrifying genius. Let’s get to work.”
