Chapter 6: Mother's True Colors

The sight of the burn sent a wave of icy fury through Julian’s veins. He stood up slowly, towering over his mother. This was the woman who had raised him, controlled him, and cloaked her malice in the name of 'family love' for his entire life.

"Mother," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly quiet, dropping to a dangerous register. "What have you done?"

Victoria’s expression hardened, her aristocratic arrogance returning as she realized she could no longer hide the truth. She raised her chin, entirely unapologetic.

"I did what was necessary to protect this family, Julian! You are the heir to a multi-billion dollar empire. You cannot marry the help. You cannot have a bastard child ruining our lineage! I cleaned up your mistake."

Julian let out a hollow, bitter laugh, tears of sheer disillusionment spilling over his eyelids.

"A mistake?" Julian whispered. "Elena is the only real, pure thing I have ever loved. And my son is not a mistake."

He looked around the magnificent mansion, suddenly feeling a deep sense of revulsion.

"You didn't protect this family, Mother. You destroyed it. You destroyed any right you ever had to call yourself my mother."
