Chapter 3: The Broken Promise

Julian took a slow step forward, his polished leather shoes clicking against the marble. The cold demeanor he usually wore in boardroom meetings completely shattered.

"Elena?" Julian whispered, his voice trembling.

Elena looked up. When her tear-filled eyes met his, a flicker of pure, desperate hope ignited within them—a sight that almost made Julian’s heart melt with agonizing guilt.

Victoria immediately stepped between them, her white fabric blocking his view.

"Julian, stay away from her," Victoria hissed. "This girl is highly unstable. She is trying to trap you."

Julian ignored his mother entirely, pushing past her. He knelt into the mess on the floor, uncaring that the grime was ruining his expensive suit.

"Elena... what is happening here?" Julian asked, his hands hovering over her, terrified to touch her and cause more pain. "Mother told me you packed your bags and left months ago. She told me... she told me you lost the baby."

Elena let out a ragged gasp, her hand gripping the edge of the counter for support.

"She told you I left?" Elena whispered, fresh tears streaming down her cheeks. "Julian... she told me you hated us. She said you paid her to get rid of me because I was a blot on your reputation."
